Roads To Riches – Richard Riot MP

Sarawak Report

The roads never get built in Riot’s constituency – even though his own company was awarded the money!

We can demonstrate that Malaysia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, the BN/SUPP MP for Serian Richard Riot, has also been involved in the disgusting practice of profiting out of projects meant for his own constituency.

In this case a RM9.3million ringgit road building project has been awarded to a company he controls through his son, Akjaemura Jaya Sdn Bhd.

Serian road saga

Set on fire – one of the trucks in Tebedi

The issue of roads is particularly sensitive in Richard Riot’s constituency.  The Bidayuh communities of this border area have seen their lands badly destroyed by logging and oil palm, all in the name of ‘development’ by BN.

However, time and again roads that have been promised before elections have not been built.

Indeed, just before the state elections last year, road building equipment was even rolled into the constituency and voters were told to vote BN to guarantee the start of the work – only for all the equipment to be taken away again straight after the election!

How long does Richard Riot, who is now Deputy President of BN’s crony party SUPP, think he can get away with a game like that?

Enough is enough in Serian?

No wonder SUPP lost so many of its seats at the State Election last year, if that is how they treat their constituents!

Anger flares up

There is no doubt about the anger in Serian.  It burst into flames not long ago in Tebedu when logging trucks, which had been encroaching onto native lands with the full support of Taib’s government, weredramatically set on fire.

The Bidayuh are famously good-natured and tolerant types, but how often can you lie to them without them coming to some inevitable conclusions?

Richard Riot taking the credit along with state ‘representative’ Michael Manyin for bringing roads to Serian

Another road scandal in the area has been recorded, as possibly the most expensive ever stretch of road that was never built.

The Terbat-Mapu 5 kilometre road has seen two ribbon cutting ceremonies, as BN politicians have helicoptered in to take credit for the award of development money for the project.

But it remains unmade!

Look at Richard Riot and his state counter-part Michael Manyin here again boasting of their road-building efforts in the Borneo Post!  Did this project (managed by the Taib/Hamid Sepawi owned company Naim Cendera) ever get beyond the ribbon-cutting stage?

‘Projects for my area’

So, it is particularly sensitive that Richard Riot has his name on the contract for one of these most recent ‘proposed’ road projects in his constituency.

The contract concerned is “The Construction & Completion Of Proposed Jalan Kpg. Sorak Melayu, Serian, Bahagian Samarahan”, according to Malaysia’s official Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) website.

Nice ten million ringgit project!

This job has been awarded to Akjaemura Jaya Sdn Bhd, a private company that this MP for Serian and Federal Deputy Foreign Minister of Malaysia controls!

Richard Riot is the big cheese shareholder in this company handling the road project!

For BN politicians the logic of such projects is compelling (as long as no one exposes them). They get to take the credit for the project in front of all their constituents, while controlling the budget!

This means that they can sub-contract the work to another grateful constituent and political ally (for a lot less) and use any spare money for themselves, political hangers on, party business, bribes for headmen etc etc.

If the road actually gets built, well that is an added bonus, but not guaranteed!

We don’t know the details (yet) of how Deputy Foreign Minister, Richard Riot, has spent the money for this particular project.  However, we do know that he should never have been given the opportunity.  Politicians should NEVER take money awarded for state contracts into companies controlled by themselves or close family members.

It is corrupt and we all know why!

  1. 40% of total Dayak votes will swing to Pakatan with more corruption expose on BN Dayak YBs in the run up to GE13. The BN Malay YBs will be having sleepless nights too. Thank you Sarawak Report and all Sarawakians for providing more evidence.

  4. Aha… another one corrupt politician exposed. What is worst about these so-called Dayak leaders is that they treat their own people like slaves for them to exploit. And they don’t even have the conscience to give back a little. Instead they steal them blind, treating them like ignorant kampung idiots.
Thank you once again Sarawak Report for exposing these greedy hypocrites. We look forward to more exposures. No wonder Riot was one of those staunch supporters of Taib.

  6. The teory of passing the batons to the next guys still rampant in Malaysian politic. I’m doubtful that thes young Dayaks or Malays intelectuals want to miss the chance to get rich or richer when they turn to take over the leadership baton. Having the premises in mind, may be it may be good to pick the aged to be our representative bcos we know for very sure they have little time left to ransack to be richest inpolitic. Another mean is to limit to every representative a 2-term and automatic retirement. No Obligation. These is just fine for the PR. For UMNO/BN/PBB whatever it is, it’s too late and useless. But let’s all be very sure that we all want UMNO/BN/PBB out in Malaysia’s politic after PRU13. Bravo.

  7. One percent of Dayak politicians in UMNO dominated BN is controlling the socio-economic wellbeing of ninty-nine percent of the Dayak community and treating them as fools and pawning their rights and future for their own benefits and political interests. Today, and after 48 years since Sarawak formed Malaysia and among the major signatories was a Dayak leader, Tun Jugah, the rural Dayaks remain among the poorest in the country.

Where are all the so-called intellectual and educated Dayak graduates who are not among the one percent Dayak politicians and what have they done to help protect their own community from been exploited and used as pawns by BN politicians in exchange for even basic amenities. Is the formation of Dayaks Graduate Association a platform for Dayak opportunists to beg for left over crumbs from BN Dayak YBs? The educated and right thinking Dayaks should feel ashamed for being so lame and not doing anything at all to get rid of the corrupted and self serving BN Dayak YBs.

    • Cikgu, your contribution to those generations has gone to the waste basket. Those upline graduate only worry about themselves and their immediate family. If you are poor and under educated you are left to fend for yourself so that those poor ones will be forever manipulated. The MP and YBs will become the TAUKEY while the rest will be the kuli-kuli only. The next on the queue will be the DBNA President if he will be given the shot…that’s life and the spirit of the education product. You have done your part…so if your still teaching, insert in a segment of Christ Life analogy into the Pengajaran Moral for those Non Muslim student.Pray that the student will benefit from it.
