In all the 22 years of his tenure as prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had never ever used BN’s party slogan for the National Day celebrations. This is due to the fact that Dr Mahathir is a man of ideas unlike the current Prime Minister, Najib Tun Razak.
And PM Najib’s lack of ideas is really obvious because he is using BN’s campaign slogan, ‘Janji Ditepati’ (Promises Fulfilled) as the slogan for the National Day.
“The PM has decided that the National Day is also BN’s Day and this is irresponsible at best and despicable at worst,” said Kuala Selangor PAS MP Dzulkefly Ahmad.
“By doing so, Najib has ignored 48% of the rakyat who gave the opposition the popular vote in the previous general election. The National Day theme should be neutral and all inclusive, for example the slogan ‘Together We Rebuild The Nation’ would be more suitable,” added Dzulkefly.
His PAS colleague, Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar concurred, saying that by using the party slogan the PM has shown disrespect to Pakatan Rakyat (PR) and PR’s supporters as if the National Day only belongs to BN.
Definitely BN has appropriated the National Day for themselves and this use of the National Day as an election campaign platform is an indication that there is a high probability that Parliament will be dissolved in August.
In fact, a PAS political observer had just opined that the PM may even dissolve Parliament on the night he delivers the Aidil Fitri message so that the Aidil Fitri Open Houses can also double up for the election campaign.
Najib’s use of BN’s campaign slogan for the National Day celebrations reveals his desperation to woo the rakyat into voting for BN. Certainly he has run out of ideas. It is thus obvious that he is not a visionary leader.
“Whereas Dr Mahathir’s ‘Look East Policy’ has firm substance and basis, Najib’s GTP (Government Transformation Programme) is all hot air and hype. The GTP Roadmap which is only glamour and glitz could even lead to nowhere compared to Dr Mahathir’s ‘Look East Policy’ which has brought progress and prosperity to Malaysia through the inculcation of a hardworking and professional work ethic,” said a businessman who requested to remain anonymous.
The National Day theme must be inclusive as it is a celebration for all the peoples of Malaysia. How can PM Najib talk about ‘Janji Ditepati’ when there are rural areas in Malaysia still without the supply of clean pipe water?
Desperate to stay in power at all costs
Clearly Najib intends to use ‘Janji Ditepati’ to turn the National Day celebrations into a day of solely campaigning for BN.
“Therefore the National Day celebrations is the last ditch effort by PM Najib to win over the people’s support if the polls are to be held in mid-September,” said Opposition Leader, Anwar Ibrahim.
According to the anonymous businessman mentioned above, the investment climate has dampened due to the delaying of the general election and if Najib delays the date any further, the results will be disastrous.
That is the reason why he has no choice but to use the National Day celebrations as his election campaign in view of the polls which is now quite certain to be held before Sept 17.
The National Day celebrations is a time to foster harmony and goodwill among all Malaysians regardless of race, religion or political affiliation. That the PM as leader of the country has chosen to divide the nation at this most crucial celebration of the nation only highlights his selfish attitude in looking after only his own interests.
The National Day celebrations is now a bone of contention due to the PM’s fault. People are not stupid and can see BN’s cunning and diabolical methods in dividing the citizens on National Day. BN’s propaganda makes it seem very obvious as if those supporting BN are patriotic citizens whereas those supporting PR are deemed as traitors to the nation.
This subtle brainwashing employed by BN to influence the rakyat is Machiavellian indeed and shows that BN has no qualms in creating disunity among the citizens all because of its greedy agenda of wanting to stay in power at all costs.
Najib is certainly the chief planner in this evil plot of ruining the harmony of the rakyat as National Day is supposed to be a time to put aside all political differences – even just for this one day. But this is impossible now and it is all Najib’s fault.
National Day celebrations is a time for nation-building and people-building. Sadly the PM only sees it as a political platform. It is time for us to choose leaders who place the welfare of the rakyat above that of their own. We do not want selfish and self-serving leaders who try to hoodwink us into voting for them.
We want leaders who are ready and willing to serve the rakyat. And the people must wake up to this, especially the people of Sabah and Sarawak.
Last but not least, this columnist suggests ‘Standing Together For The Nation’ as a neutral and all-encompassing National Day theme.

WHY BOTHER? THIS SO-CALLED NATIONAL DAY SONG SYMBOLIZES MALAYAN COLONIZATION OF SABAH & SARAWAK.
We need not get worked up about it – just don’t bother to sing it.
For Malayans it means UMNO dictatorial domination of all Malayans regardless of their race. For us in Sarawak and Sabah it means 49 years of colonial domination and plunder by the foreign Kuala Lumper government.
Further on 31 August, we in Sarawak and Sabah would have suffered 49 years of UMNO plunder of our resources.
Attached is a Reuters report on how Petronas plunders Sabah and Sarawak oil resources and has become a global enterprise since 1974- 36 years of stealing Sabah and Sarawak oil and gas resources entitled: “Special Report: Petronas chafes at its role as Malaysia’s piggy bank”.

“July 2 – Malaysian energy giant Petronas funds about 45 percent of the country’s budget — making it all the more crucial that it tackles concerns about dwindling supplies and government interference. Lisa Yuriko Thomas reports. ( Transcript )”
The point it does not bring out is that Sabah and Sarawak contriubuted to that $60 Billion revenue for half the national budget lat year.
Why should we have to share our wealth and become impoverished.

PETRONAS EXPLOITS SABAH SARAWAK OIL UNDER MALAYSIA “PONZI SCHEME”
(This news comment on the above Petronas Malaysia’s oil corporation was made by Reuters on 7th July 2012)
http://www.reuters.com/video/2012/07/02/meet-petronas-malaysias-main-cash-pipeli?videoId=236296602
The news comment mentioned that Petronas has developed into a multi-billion global enterprise. This is thanks to over 35 years of exploiting oil belonging to the resource rich East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak on Northern Borneo Island.
The news comment also mentioned that last year Petronas contributed to half of the national budget being $60 billion. The rest must be pure profits in Petronas’ bank account.
Petronas was created when the Petroleum Development Act was passed in 1974 seizing control of Sabah and Sarawak oilfields. This was made possible when resistant Chief Ministers of Sabah and Sarawak were removed by the Kuala Lumpur government and replaced with chief ministers who willingly signed away their state oil rights to Petronas control. This happened eleven years after the British colonial government transferred control of Sabah and Sarawak to the Malayan government under the Malaysia Plan in 1963.
(Listeners) can imagine how important Sabah and Sarawak are as parts of Malaysia for their giant contributions to the national wealth which largely goes across the China sea to develop the West Malaysian States. They essentially prop up the whole Malaysian economy.
However, despite their economic importance, in the last 49 years of “independence in Malaysia”, these 2 sparsely populated states have remained the most underdeveloped and under funded states.
In fact the rampant exploitation of the 2 states’ resources has reduced Sabah to be poorest state in Malaysia with Sarawak coming second.
The “gleaming icons” the Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur are now being called the Sabah and Sarawak Towers as they were built with Sabah and Sarawak oil money. So is Putra Jaya the new administrative centre, other gleaming palaces and public buildings and much of the infrastructures of West Malaysia have all been funded by Sabah and Sarawak money.
A recent news comment found on the Internet described Malaysia as a “ponzi scheme”. The Kuala Lumpur government takes 100% of Sabah and Sarawak oil revenues and taxes and gives them back a miserly 5% royalty. This is especially shocking when the two states originally owned the oil.
It is no wonder that the people in both states have come to see that they have been re-colonised in Malaysia.
A Sarawakian Dr. John B Anthony who publishes an Internet blog page called “Dayakbaru” in an article entitled: “Sarawak-may-leave-Malaysia-sooner-than-expected” said: (Quote)
“In Sarawak, the spirit of anti-Malaya due to its colonizing approach is rising. Sarawak today is being colonized in all aspects, education, commerce, religion, politics, social structure and even government through the BN party.”
http://dayakbaru.com/weblog08/2012/02/11/sarawak-may-leave-malaysia-sooner-than-expected/
Malaya took the wealth of Sarawak and gave back “crumbs” as development fund. Malaya took all the important Ministries, took all the important posts in the civil service…”
The Sabah State Reform party deputy leader Daniel Jambun wrote in his list of 22 “failed” items by the Kuala Lumpur government (Quote): http://wikisabah.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/some-lies-for-bn-to-answer.html
“16. Among the biggest source of our dissatisfaction is in how our natural resources are being taken from us. Imagine if the oil royalty for Sabah and Sarawak is reviewed to 70 percent backdated to 1976 and with 8 per cent interest for arrears compounded yearly! That amount would be so much it would take care of all of Sabah’s development needs for decades to come”
He said.”. This kind of oil royalty rate is nothing fantastic because it is already practised by other countries such as Timor Leste, South Sudan, Darfur, Acheh, and under the nationalist movement in Scotland.”
Both these writers have increasingly taken a very strong stand on Sabah and Sarawak re-examining their positions as States of Malaysia.

Nothing is sacred to Najib anymore. He’s in such a desperate man and is like a drowning man grasping at straws. The interesting thing is that the more he try the worst the situation becomes for him. He’s like a man lost in a deep cave with no light to show the way. Altantuya must be smiling from somewhere.

“National day or BN day” is to me an interesting title of Selena’s article. Since it is clearly a campaign slogan, why not just let the umno/bn and its supporters celebrate their last BN day before leaving Putrajaya for good. The rest of the malaysian people could celebrate the National Day in their patriotic ways.
There is totally nothing wrong for us rakyat to display our own theme as long as it carries the message of harmony and love for this country. National Day is not only belonging to najib and umno/bn’s party and how could they hijack it in the broad day light?
What shall we do now? Instead of boycotting the national event as certain quarters suggested, why not all other political parties, Bersih and other NGOs to sit together and think of a better ways to celebrate it and make sure the event must be purely for Malaysia’s interest.

Selena, why can’t we just post your article at their site eg. The Star..as in letters, column, opinions so that more people will know about it?
I mean you don’t have to mention the white hair or blue -the obvious!! -you can convey the message more to stir up thinking minds..
I sincerely hope I can understand more even as I am aware that the papers are bias…SO bias so much so that I usually skipped after a glance.
Infact I ‘stumbled’ accidently at your site and I thought it is only for East M’sia!!
Last but not least, I think it is INTENTIONAL that that IS the ‘white hair’ agenda. ..He IS trying to frustrate the PR. And I can only said that you have my support.
God bless you all for enlightening people…like me.
