Rural kampung folk in Sarawak who have been living in poverty for decades are being told to vote for Barisan Nasional if they want development in their areas.
According to Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnical Rayong, the opposition is “only good at making promises” but BN keeps its word, alluding to Prime Minsiter Najib Tun Razak’s “Janji Ditepati’ slogan.
Najib’s slogan however is out-of-sync in Sarawak and in Sabah where poverty, poor infrastructure, lack of healthcare and basic necessities are a norm.
Both states despite their immense natural resources and oil are among the poorest in the country.
Sabah in fact was declared the poorest by the World Bank and Sarawak is third. The bulk of rural Sarawak is still devoid of clean piped water, electricity and decent roads. Life is ridiculously tough and cost of living higher than in Peninsular Malaya.
The Barisan Nasional coalition under Chief Minister Taib Mahmud has ‘ruled’ Sarawak for decades and its publicly espoused ‘development agenda’ has not whittled down to masses.
The elite have become richer while the rural natives live under the shadow of land grabs, displacements (due to deforestations), gangsters and rogue politicians.
‘Light years behind development’
But the 2008 political twist in Peninsula Malaya and the subsequent outcome of state elections last year has been a cold shower for local leaders who until then lorded over the state.
Opposition DAP and PKR made dramatic inroads wresting 12 and three seats respectively from Sarawak BN coalition. PKR lost Senadin by a contentious 58 seats.
Many other seats were retained by BN but with small majorities making the 13th parliamentary elections a precarious one for BN.
Except for Taib’s Pesaka Bumiptera Bersatu-held 14 seats, the rest of the coalition’s partners – Sarawak United Peoples Party (SUPP), Party Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) – are up against a tougher opposition.
Sources predict that BN will lose up to 10 seats in Sarawak. SUPP, PRS and SPDP collectively hold 17 seats.
Bulk of these seats are in Chinese-centric areas and mixed the rural interior; the very folk whom Rayong targeted when he said “BN is the most ideal and democratic government in Malaysia.”
Said Rayong at a meet-the-people session in Lidong, recently: “The rural people…they still need the BN government. (They) are still light years behind in the development wave.
“What is the use of supporting the opposition to fight the BN… the opposition is only good at making promises, they cannot do anything to improve the people’s livelihood… vote for BN candidates.”
Rayong is not the only one desperately trying to convince an increasingly skeptical rural audience who are beginning to see themselves as victims of unscrupulous and arrogant politicians who behave like ‘gods’ or in PRS president James Masing’s words a ‘towkay’
Free money, projects
The amount of projects being spun and of cash disbursed under the Minor Rural Projects (MRP) is immense – RM10,000 here, RM7,000 there and RM3,000 everywhere. Every village security committee and localised women and youth groups are getting some form of ‘spending’ money for their activities.
Yesterday Sarawak deputy chief minister Alfred Jabu Numpang said that 48 agriculture stations throughout the state will be reactivated or newly set up.
He said more than 100 agriculture assistants would be recruited to man these stations, meaning there will jobs to look forward to but according to him “it will take more than a year to recruit them”.
Earlier this week, state public utilities minister Awang Tengah Ali Hassan said Ba Kelalan constituency will finally have electricity.
An ironical statement, seeing the constituency was under BN before it PKR wrested it last April.
According to Awang Tengah “RES (Rural Electricification Scheme) funds are now ready for areas in Ba Kelalan.”
Apparently the ‘focus’ of the RES has now been ‘switched’ to Ba Kelalan because most of Bukit Sari is served by main lines.
Awang Tengah is Bukit Sari assemblyman and both Ba Kelalan and Bukit Sari fall under the Lawas parliamentary constituency which BN intelligence has identifed as a ‘grey’ area.
This aside the Sarawak Welfare, Women and Family Development Ministry has also been doing its bit with the cash handouts – having spent over RM60 million in the last six months.
Some 47,097 poor and less fortunate people – voters no less – have allegedly benefited.
According to minister Fatimah Abdullah the grant is for target group “to provide them with the means to carry out projects or business that can increase and improve their income and living standards.”
The giveaways now are just a tip of the iceberg. The bigger handouts will come as the polls roll out and then too it will be project funds and BN’s development agenda not bribery.

Raya without water in many parts of Sarawak! That is one of the achievements of BN after 49 years of misrule, mismanagement and corruption.

Malaysia Day’s Janji Tak DiTepati Rakyat DiBohongi
http://borneoherald.blogspot.com/2012/07/malaysia-days-janji-tak-ditepati-rakyat.html
What a East Malaysian think on the eve of Merdeka
After more than 50 years of “Janji tak diTepati, Rakyat selalu diBohongi”, Iet us say goodbye to UMNO BN. Is this coming GE 13 (PRU 13) the end of BN in Sabah? Sabahans must realise that they have replaced the white men imperialist’s colonialism with brown skin UMNOputras.
In the year 1963, people of Sabah and Sarawak were conned or sweet-talked to join Malaysia; and later still, UMNO either branded them as “pendatang” and now classify them into Bumi versus non Bumi. Even if they were classified Bumi, their status are second class Bumi only unlike the peninsular Bumis (Malays mostly) who are more privileged.
They made a lot of empty promises and until today we remained the poorest in the country. Look how pathetic we are still.
They have even hijacked their own religion Islam and started to call us non-Muslims like as if we are non-humans or subhumans (remember how Hitler’s Nazi Germans treated the Jews and other non-Germanic peoples as Untermenschen) and treated us like second class citizens too like they treated the Chinese and the Indians.
Only the Malays and Muslims (or the Mamak Malays like Mahathir and his other half-Indian crony Nor Yakcop who nearly bankruped the country speculating Bank Negara forex reserves) are accorded first class Bumi status.
Believe it or not, hotels in Sabah and Sarawak still serve pork unlike West Malaysia. For that matter, hotels even in Indonesia, Turkey and Dubai still serve pork. Only in Malaysia Boleh country, haram food is given a new stricter meaning i.e. ” If as a first class Muslim (Malay) what I cannot eat; you also cannot touch because it is sensitive to us Muslims.
Things had come to a stage that “if we puasa during the month of Ramadan, you not only cannot eat in our presence you should not be handling food or operating any eateries too – just like what we are forbidden to do”.
“If we impose Islamic hudud laws (in UMNOnised Malaysia Boleh country) it also meant the non Muslims must abide by our rules and laws. If you want to stay in my country you obey my rules. Otherwise you balik India, balik Cina.” This is UMNO philosophy whether you like it or not. This is their Ketuanan Melayu country. But where are we supposed to go if we don’t accept their rules?
Jump into the deep blue sea or take a dive down Mount Kinabalu?
We the natives of Sabah and Sarawak have no say in what they want to impose on the land. They rape and plunder our jungles for its vast riches like it belongs to their great grandfathers. Our so-called native customary rights (NCR) are simply rode roughshod in their pursuit of wanton greed. They demand unquestionable special Malay rights but we get nothing even when we are called Bumi in Sabah and Sarawak. They practised double standards just the same as over in the peninsula.
They have forgotten that the love of money in their greed and corruption is the root of all kinds of evil. These UMNO devils have also forgotten that Malaysia was formed by 3 separate entities: Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak. These UMNO scumbags think that Sabah and Sarawak are merely the 13th and 14th states of Malaya. If that was so why change the name to Malaysia.
They forgot the original agreement was equality with Malaya as a whole. The federation of Malaysia was formed when these three separate countries – Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak – came together to establish a bigger new country. Brunei opted out first and then Singapore left. Look how advanced and prosperous they are now compared to us after we joined Malaysia.
We are going nowhere.
To get around the illegals via the scandalous Projeck M issue, they sent their corrupt immigration and police force here so that we will be subservient to them and not treated as equals. This is exactly how Barisan Nasional operates here: they suppress our indigenous native rights so they can have a free hand to rape and plunder our abundant natural resources for the benefit of the first class Bumi in the peninsula especially the UMNOputras.
We the natives of Sabah and Sarawak remain the poorest of the country as a whole and the most poverty stricken in the land. By keeping us weak and backward they hope we have no means to oppose them in their rampant corruption.
UMNO is the top dog while the rest get crumbs only. It is this total unashamed apartheid policy by UMNO and their BN gang which is destroying us and our country. Domino effect hopefully takes over from here…more to come from Sabah..and likely Sarawak also…what goes around comes around..it’s called karma.

Sarawakian are STUPID !!! We are so stupid that Najib even call our State ” BN Fixed Deposit”. When BN won the last election, all promises made prior were all forgotten and we Sarawakian still want to support BN. Now prior to the coming election, BN Politicians are now every where playing Santa Claus, giving out money and promising heaven on earth for the people. You look at today newspaper and see what the MCA Minister is doing, wah ! giving out money for Chinese Schools. WHY NOW ???? Don’t the Chinese feel insulted by this action. Just before election all these so called Government support for the Chinese. After election, what happened then. Perkasa insulted the Chinese and all these Chinese Ministers from MCA, SUPP , Gerakan don’t even bother to make a stand for the Malaysian Chinese.
Go to Hell !

These are words of desparation from this jonical fella. We have been eating BN, drinking BN, sleeping BN and playing the bn game for more then 40 years and still the same promises. Now who is playing old records as bn people like to remind us. If the opposition are only good at giving promises, BN IS ONLY GOOD AT GIVING PROMISES WHICH THEY DO NOT FULFILL and VERY GOOD AT FULFILLING THEIR BANK ACCOUNTS PROMISES! How many of our BN YBs are Millionaires before they became YB mr jonical? LOOK AT YOURSELF FIRST LAH! Skim cepat kaya kah kerja YB ni Mr jonical? We rakyat had the hope that our YBs and us prosper together but it is too one sided now and we see it as unfair to us who put you ybs there. So i propose a different BN slogan for SARAWAK & SABAH , something like “YB DIDAHULUKAN, RAKYAT DIKETEPIKAN” How else did the natives of sabah and sarawak became the poorest in malaysia?

This katak rayong is a katak dalam temporong! Knowing apple polishing and talk shit only. Catch him if not fasting or taking pork please. Because his safe haven is with BN only, so to him BN the corrupted government is only one log that he can hold on for survival.

This is indeed the typical attitude of BN leaders and always “flip-flop” starting from najib downwards. Johnical Rayong has presumably known the real situations on the ground and why has he behaved like “have a foot in both camps”? In an instant, he sounded to me like an opposition politician or may be he has already smelled that the rural electorate could no further be fooled.
A ‘Black Out’ Janji Ditepati indeed! Decades of no basic facilities and infrastructures for most part of the rural Sarawak and Sabah. What say Rayong on the matter against his accusation on opposition’s empty promises?

Why..o..why must the people be SERVED LAST? IF ONLY THESE BUGGERS START FROM DAY ONE FROM THE WORD GO…how different and happy would the people have been. ..BUT…IT HAS TO TAKE 5 YEARS – AT THE ELEVENTH hour – do or die desperation – to get those FAT BUMS TO START MOVING – WORST STILL, WITH NO CLEAR BRAINSTORMING IDEAS. …AND THE PEOPLE ARE SUPPOSE TO BE GRATEFUL – What did you said? This is not bribery???!!! NOW, I understand the words, “…you can have the crumbs…!!
People, are YOU awake? ! Open your eyes around. …SEE…AND…THINK!
