BMF, Aidila Razak

Swiss NGO Bruno Manser Fund today released a list of 49 companies located across four continents around the globe, which it claims are linked to Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud and his family.

The list includes 13 companies in Malaysia, 10 in Australia, nine in Canada, seven in Hong Kong, four in the United States, three in the British Virgin Islands, one on the island of Jersey and two in the United Kingdom.

NONE“The intention of the black list is to help the listed countries’ anti-corruption and anti-money-laundering authorities to identify and freeze illicit Taib assets in their countries,” the organisation said in a press statement today.

The list is published on its new anti-corruption website and is to be updated regularly.

BMF has also launched an online petition on the website, urging the authorities in the respective countries to investigate Taib and his family’s financial dealings and freeze their assets for subsequent restitution to the people of Sarawak.

The petition, which will be sent to the authorities in Australia, the British Virgin Islands, Canada, Hong Kong, Jersey, Malaysia, the UK and the US as well as to the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering, currently has 139 signatures.

NONEAmong the Malaysian companies listed are Borsarmulu Resort Sdn Bhd, Cahya Mata Sarawak Sdn Bhd, K&N Kenanga, Kumpulan Parabena Sdn Bhd, Mesti Bersatu Sdn Bhd, Sarawak Energy Bhd, Naim Holdings and Ta Ann Group.

Some of these companies are partly-owned by the state and are involved in state-supported projects such as the Royal Mulu Resort (above) and Murum dam.

Multimillion-ringgit property companies

azlanA considerable number of the companies listed are property development companies, including Sakti International Corporation Incorporated, which is located in the United States.

Documentspublished by whistleblower website Sarawak Report show that this company is worth about RM250 million.

Also listed is a Canadian group of companies, Sakto, about whichSarawak Reportposted documents to prove Sakto owns property worth in excess of RM300 million.

Similar calls have been made by BMF to various European Union countries to freeze assets belonging to ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

All the countries in which the companies listed by BMF are located, including Malaysia, are signatories to and have ratified the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).

UNCAC signatories are obliged to coordinate with one another and provide mutual legal assistance in cases of funds connected with crime, even to the extent of extraditing the persons accused.

The day of action at Padang Medeka came and went. Only a few turned up!

I heard that Kuching people consume the most vitamins imported!

After the forthcoming election, Taib will still be CM.

We will still read more and more stories about his loots.

We will still be angry and sad people!

    • You are right.

The people in Sarawak are still blind to support Taib.

      Very sad.

There is no way any of Sarawak’s assets will be ever returned to Sarawak if we don’t firstly regain complete control of our country, territory and economy- that is our right to self rule and national independence.

Our main asset oil is controlled by Kuala Lumpur and exploited by Petronas and foreign companies. They share the profits about 50/40. They throw back at us back practically nothing- just the scraps!

A few bloggers have pointed out how all 2.5 million Sarawakians can be millionaires. Just in the past 3 years over $290 BILLION has been stolen by Kuala Lumpur not including profits kept by Petronas and foreign companies. This does not take into account the profits since 1963 from our petroleum resources.

Anyone who can do rough sums can see that if we divide the profits from just those 3 years evenly among all Sarawakians every single person will still be a millionaire MANY TIMES over! Add the profits from the other years.

Added to this all the $Billions of timber profits stripped from natives by the Taib family and cronies including the minority Foochow timber tycoon class.

This logic is staring at all of us in the eye.

However we remain stupified by the illusion that “independence in Malaysia” is for our good and advancement.

No one can deny that it is just the opposite. The official statistics put both Sabah and Sarawak as the most resource rich colonies in “Malaysia” but they have become the poorest in the last 48 years. We have the lowest annual per capita income. We have poor public facilities such as transport, health and education system. The UMNO PBB BN government overproduces dams and electricity but many villages still do not enjoy this facility which is taken for granted as an expected right in other countries.

China was more backward economically than Sarawak 40 years ago with vast social economic problems. It has since become the one of the world’s leading economic powers and more advanced than Sarawak and “Malaysia” in most respects. One of the basic reason is that China is independent and controls its own destiny and resources. Millions of Chinese fought and died for more than 100 years to regain China’s independence (1949) after foreign powers invaded and dominated its territories and stripped it of its ancient national treasures and natural resources.

In those hundred years of China’s struggle to regain its independence Sarawak was actually “independent” till 1941 and was relatively free from the voracious foreign plunder that added to China giant social problems. This freedom was lost in 1942 with Japanese invasion, 1946 British colonisation and in 1962/3 with annexation of Sabah and Sarawak by Malaya and continuation of colonisation and plunder.

We who pride ourselves as fierce warriors are still living in the past on a memory with no development. Natives are deprived of almost everything most of all their precious land and freedom. Because we lack the will and unity, the foreign rape of our resources will continue and most of us will suffer in poverty and be deprived of the benefit of the wealth which is our basic right as the owners of Sarawak.

If we can complain so loudly, we can also fight mightily to take back our country!

All the talk about our past warrior reputation is empty when no one dares to turn up at the central Padang for a simple protest.

No Parang Ilang on the Padang?

The Penans and NCR Land fighters put the rest of us to shame. The Penans have tenaciously pursued their rigths for over 30 years and they are the smallest of Sarawak tribes. That’s why they have the honour of holding the banner of our struggle against foreign rule.

All the rest of us cannot even hold a small demo. Bloggers have said alot such as shaming ourselves for our lack of courage to stand up (they don’t mince words and say we are “cowards”).

Compatriots, the pen or now the keyboard is your weapon. Use the time to raise the call to take back our country Sarawak. We were proudly independent once, we were proudly warriors once. It is our right to be independent and not continue to be cheated by being colonised in Malaysia.

If the brave few who turned up at the Padang can keep on working, the next Padang demo will be bigger. May be you need to do more organising. People just don’t turn up on short notice. Even in Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Jordan, Iran, Iran, Bahrain, Yemen and now Morocco – people have to be organise.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_Jx8nbNGBQ

SMS alone is not enough, the people keen to demo should form an organising group to organise the demo. There are many ideas for organising the demo. you can get from the internet. You need to have an your objective/s or target first (that is easy), inform friendly groups or NGOs etc, have meetings and make joint decisions, prepare simple information leaflets to distribute on the day of the demo, prepare banners and placards. All this is training and preparation for bigger things to come.

You need numbers. One or two protesters is very encouraging and a good start for Kuching standard. No offence meant but you guys need to unite and sharpen your courage if not your parangs.

All of us must awake and rise up to fight for independence and take back our country.

      Be warriors again!
