Anwar optimistic as PKR unveils list of 48 candidates to take on Taib

Sheela Sri Jaya, Malaysia Chronicle

PKR has announced it will contest 48 of the 71 seats in Sarawak’s legislative assembly. Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim was present at the press conference organised by PKR Sarawak chief Baru Bian who unveiled the much-anticipated list on Monday.

Baru himself will be contesting the Ba’kelalan seat, where speculation is rife that Prime Minister Najib Razak wants his protege Idris Jala to make a challenge for.

It is important for the BN to run down PKR as much as possible in the Sarawak polls, which political observers have already called the mother of all battles and predict will be the dirtiest of all elections in history.

PKR will be the Pakatan’s torch-bearer in Sarawak and the party that will take the fight directly into Taib’s den. Most of the seats PKR will contest are in rural and interior regions where Taib has long commanded.

DAP will be contesting 15 seats, almost all of which are in urban and Chinese-dominated areas. PAS plans to go for 5 seats in areas where Muslims form the larger portion of the populace.

Snap now favors BN

Already, Snap – one of Sarawak’s oldest parties – has allegedly switched allegiance to the BN, their leaders enticed by BN promises of lucre and positions.

It has all but withdrawn from the Pakatan Rakyat although Anwar is careful to stress that the door will stay open if Snap decides it cannot work with the BN anymore.

“We have a major battle with BN this time around and we don’t want to allow any false party to sabotage our efforts, and this is in no reference to Snap,” Anwar said at the press conference on Monday.

“Since 2004, after I left prison, I’ve never felt this kind of reception and sentiment on the ground. There’s this mood of growing acceptance to Pakatan and no one can deny that this is the first time in the history of Sarawak that BN is facing a formidable challenge.”

Malaysia Chronicle appends below the full list of PKR candidates and their professional backgrounds:

    • Pakatan belongs ONLY in Peninsular Malaysia and has no business in Sarawak or East Malaysia. There will be no better tomorrow is Pakatan takes over where BN left so do not vote for either BN(Apartheid) or Pakatan(Nepotism).

Local Orang Asli and Sarawakians, vote for LOCAL PARTIES that are unaligned with BN. Do not let Pakatan become another BN by allowing them to dominate both Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. That would give Pakatan too much power and this scenario must not be allowed.

Pakatan may not be APARTHEID but they must not be allowed hegemony over both East and Peninsular Malaysia either. Orang Aslis and Sarawakians, vote for your own locals, DO NOT allow Peninsular Parties to take control of East Malaysia now that BN’s influence ended. You are merely signing away power to Peninsular parties AGAIN.

Vote local parties only! And non-BN(APARTHEID) parties at that!

  4. A vote for SNAP is a vote to consolidate BN power grip in rural constituencies to further exploit the less educated and marginalised rural poor. Young and educated Dayaks should inform their parents, relatives and rural folks that they should not be confused about Pakatan Rakyat coalition of DAP, PKR and PAS if they want to vote out the corrupted regime of Taib Mahmud and the abusive, repressive, corrupted and oppressive UMNO controlled BN .

Vote only PKR, PAS and DAP in your area. Sarawak4Change. Taib Mahmud must Go.

  5. PKR has nominated a list of 48 highly qualified untainted candidates for the 16th April 2011 Sarawak State Election ranging from bankers, lecturers, IT consultants, formers ambassador and MP, lawyers, medical doctors, teachers, businessmen, etc a great contrast to those gangs from the BN/PBB camp. They should take advantage of the next 6-7 days campaigning house-to-house to introduce themselves to the longhouse folks to present their election manifesto and what they can do for them. Good luck to you folks and you stand very good chances to be elected.

  7. The three Prime Ministers before this Kaka Muslim from Calicut, Kerela, India found no problem accepting that all Malaysians were free to use the word Allah, an English word, to worship whichever God they believed, but Mamakthir deprived non-Muslims the right to freedom of religious belief. Restricting the use of the word Allah is equivalent to taking away the God in the minds of the people who do their normal religious prayer. Mamakthir was not satisfied with denying non-Malays the equal opportunity to economic and academic progress through NEP he insidiously encouraged opponents to free religious practices by denying Christians access to Allah. The 19 NGOs who took upon themselves to defend Islam had inspiration from the 1981 decision to ban Malay Bible. Najib should have the courage to reverse the harm at segregating Malaysians by religion which was started by Mamakthir in 1981.

Mamakthir created the mindset that Malays or rather Muslims are natural enemies of non-Malays. He created it to advance his own interests and to avenge his loss in the 1969 election in Kota Alor Star after declaring that he did not want Chinese support. That was before May 13, and naturally what happened soon after the election in 1969 was capitalized by him. Poor Tunku only realized that his colleagues in UMNO had been poisoned by Mamakthir when they engineered the riots to stage a coup d’état.

  8. Spare a thought today for the plight of the Penans,Dayaks,Ibans,Bidayuhs and Sarawakians.

The multi billionaire thief minister of Sarawak Taib Mahmud who had robbed us for 30 years and refusing to go anytime soon, could even afford to pay up to RM2 million for three imported Bomohs to accompany him to file his nomination in Balingian on April 06 2011. While sipping your coffee and tea during your breakfast, it is time to reflect and think what you and Sarawakians have benefited from the UMNO controlled BN government?

What did the violent demonstrations and uprisings in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya ,Algeria, Jordan, Yemen and Iran teach us ? These countries also have developments, good roads, electricity, education, health care services and a elected government but why were the people so unhappy and angry? It is because the rural populations were neglected and marginalised. The ruling government had abused their power, massive corruptions by lawmakers, oppressive and repressive policies and there was no freedom of expression. And their leaders had enriched themselves, families and cronies like the thief minister of Sarawak and UMNO controlled BN leaders and lawmakers.

Sarawakians and all Malaysians must vote for change to save our Sarawak and our beloved Malaysia from been milked dry by Taib Mahmud and UMNO controlled BN government. We can no longer entrust our future, our children’s and their children’s future to UMNO controlled BN government anymore.

A vote for BN is a vote of approval for the thief minister TAIB MAHMUD and the highly corrupted , oppressive, repressive and abusive UMNO controlled BN regime.

    • ULU PEOPLE FACE FURTHER MARGINALISATION WITH UMNO/TAIB’S SCORE SCHEME

ALTHOUGH ulu people have been marginalised for 30 years they have not accumulated the anger the Middle eastern people have against their rulers.

We always talk about how fierce the Dayaks were. The operative word is “were” a long time ago. They don’t seem to have any fight left in them after Taib has kept them on the starvation line for 30 plus years.

They are but a shadow of their cousins south of the border in Indonesian Kalimantan. Readers may recall a few years ago thousands of Dayaks rose in South Kalimantan in protest against the migrant Madurese who had mass transmigrated to their land.

In Sarawak with the UMNO/Taib’s SCORE plan to be implemented the danger of a mass transmigration of foreign Muslim workers will further marginalise the ulu people. They will be left our of jobs and be so marginalised that they will become like the Red American Indians. Already alcoholism is widespread in the ulu as happened to the Amerindians and they are reduced to a people sidelined in all the “development”.

If the ulu people let this danger become a reality it will seal the fate of many tribes. They will fade away….

  9. Did someone say Georgie will come back from the grave to haunt Miri people?

No need lah. The late Beng Hock is haunting.

Now the late Ahmad Sarbani will come back to haunt Malaysia.

“…MACC investigation director Datuk Mustafar Ali told a news conference that the body of Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed, 56, was found at 10.15am.

He said Ahmad Sarbani came to the MACC office at 8.26am, riding a motorcycle alone, to discuss his case but because the officers were in a meeting at that time, he waited at the lobby until 9.30am.

An officer then took him to a room on the third floor and accompanied him there until 10.15am before making his way out to get the investigating officer to meet him.

“He returned to the room several minutes later and found that Ahmad Sarbani was not there. He went looking for him in the premises and found the body on the first floor,” he said. …” Borneo Post

  13. GEORGE CHAN’S GHOST

The election is becoming more and more lively. George Chan in desperation has threatened to haunt the opposition for “breaking Sarawak’s peace and harmony” from his grave. He may not be able to get out of hell though!

Now what is George trying to say?

The “peace and harmony” is only an issue brought up as a threat by the PBB BN tpo intimidate the people from voting against them! There is not disunity of the people except that created by PBB BN.

    Excerpt from Free Malaysia Today

    “I will haunt you’

In Miri meanwhile SUPP president George Chan has slammed the opposition whom he claimed wanted to destroy the unity in the state.

Without mincing his words, Chan said Sarawakians want to live in harmony and peace.

“I don’t want anyone to come and destroy this. I will come back from my grave and haunt those fellows who do this.

“I was born, schooled and worked in Miri..I am pasionate about Miri..I will love it until the day I die..”

Such grand words but his love for Miri has been misplaced with his mistress who collaborated with him to defraud Sarawak’s people as in the Cardiac hospital case.

George stay in your grave where the people of Miri will bury you very deep in some oil well!

you will be burning for eternity!

    • In short Both George Chan and Taib Mahmud, the unrepentant thieves had been hoping that Sarawakians voters remain stupid and blind to what they were doing. They did not like Pakatan Rakyat to educate and inform the rakyat of the plundering and blatant crimes committed by Taib and George.

The scumbag even threatened not to develop areas that are represented by Opposition as if the money of the state belong to him or the crooks in BN. That is gross arrogance and a threat to our fundamental right and freedom to vote a government of our choice. For that, Miri voters must punish him and make him retire like past arrogant president of Sarawak Useless People’s Party.

Vote for good governance and change.

      • SIGNS OF CHANGE LIKE little RAIN DROPS

For the CHANGE to happen, one of the most crucial factors is whether the message has got through to the information starved ulu masses and if so are they ready to drop these dead beat politicians?

Most of us educated ones are aware and will cast that vital “No UMNO PBB BN” vote but those in power have made sure these votes are limited in impact by their dirty tricks such as gerrymandering, etc.

There are various signs that the “man and woman in the street” are ready to ditch the crime ridden regime.

Kuching people will definitely make a wise choice albeit with 4 corner fights.

The Miri townsfolk have shown OPEN hostility to George Chan who in desperation has threatened to haunt his opponents from his grave. (We wait for that to happen soon- haha!).

Then the people in “A longhouse community in Ulu Layar has rejected the visit of their long-serving wakil rakyat Alfred Jabu in the most ingenious way – no landing for his helicopter! They sacrificed some trees and covered the landing site so the chopper couldn’t land. Isn’t this open revolt against BN? A longhouse elder tells RFS that the community is voting for change this time.” Radio Free Sarawak”.

The tuai rumah declared in no uncertain terms they want a change of government. Will this declaration resound through the jungles or what is left of them. Will it ignite that long awaited jungle blaze?

The PBB BN fear an obvious backlash from the people of Sebangan area and deployed its army to make open threats against the people. This is one of the most blatant example of election intimidation and blackmail of the voters.

Further would Taib’s own electoral base turn against him when his sister was assisted to steal land from their own NCR Malay/Melanau supporters? They sought the opposition lawyers to sue and won their court case. Will they take this further by casting the “NO UMNO PBB BN” vote?

That is a something to ponder for the next 9 days of countdown for a day that may change history….

        • If there is any dignity left in respected leader like Datuk Daniel Tajem, he should make a public declaration about SNAP since he is the adviser. Dayaks are now most disappointed that SNAP leaders have finally succumbed to the lure of money and disguised itself as an Opposition party fighting against the blatant crimes committed by Taib Mahmud and against NCR land grabs. Datuk Daniel Tajem should disassociate itself from SNAP and ask all Dayak voters to vote for only PKR, DAP and PAS to defeat the corrupted regime of Taib Mahmud and UMNO controlled BN.

      • It’s the independent Orang Asli candidates that will determine the fate of East Malaysia. They must never let any political party from the Peninsular control them BN or PR. Remember also that DAP is a PAP (Singapore) puppet, PAP is a US puppet and US is a Zionist (Israel) puppet. Vote for Orang Asli only, not DAP’s Chinese, PKR’s Malays, any Christians (white/NWO/Illuminati controlled Orang Asli), or people who sell out to Peninsular political parties.

Every Adun or MP post MUST be taken ONLY BY Orang Aslis to topple UMNO-BNpuppets.

AFTER winning all seats in Sarawak and Sabah by focusing on winning ALL seats and ONLY voting for Orang Aslis, demand FULL EQUALITY and END OF APARTHEID.

Who needs APARTHEID or NEPOTIST or MALICIOUS COMPLIANT political parties?

Sabah and Sarawak had better get Orang Asli candidates in ALL districts and return the racist favour. After winning, make sure that Orang Asli are considered EQUALS and APARTHEID ends.

The Opposition PR does NOT offer good governance at all, BN is worse with APARTHEID. So vote ONLY for Orang Asli independent candidates and DEMAND EQUALITY.

Has he called on Shell to fix up its environmental vandalising act as in Nigeria where people got fed up and destroyed Shell pipelines? Shell was stealing all their oil and giving back peanuts.

George – Shell has been robbing us for 100 years and now in cahoots with Petronas. This is our diminishing Sarawak wealth we are talking about. Do you love Sarawak as much as your other loves?

Guess George, you and mistress are screwing the people for all their worth and have no time for poor Miri people altho you said you LOVE it so much and will haunt your opponents from your grave. Which is an end to nepotism, corruption and APARTHEID, liberalized government, better laws like removal of Tolls or Vehicular APs, end of Forced Military Conscriptions, end of abusive and outdated Section 377B also for Orang Asli independent candidates and uninfiltrated lapdog parties to dominate Sarawak’s political scene, rather than further cede Orang Asli power to peninsular BN apartheid coalition or peninsular PR nepotist coalition.

This will help voters decide that 3rd Force Coalition as proposed below is the best choice for the people :

Barisan Coalition – Apartheid, Corrupt and Nepotistic Oligarchs
Pakatan Coalition – Corrupt and Nepotistic Oligarchs
3rd Force Coalition – Corruption Only
Independent – ??? (maybe no corruption AND good policy?)

So it is simple, just choose the Coalition with the LEAST flaws.

Proposed 3rd Force Coalition is made up of KITA, MCLM, PCM, Borneo Front, Konsensus Bebas, HRP, PSM should call in MIC, Gerakan, PPP as well! End the APARTHEID and work with any non-Oligarchs in Pakatan!

So it is simple, just choose the Coalition with the LEAST flaws. Run for candidacy if not! Time to end APARTHEID and kick out nepotists, foreign power infiltrators (DAP), lapdogs (MCA/MIC/PPP/Gerakan – unless they leave BN to become a swing vote) and racists (BN) !

            1) Freedom from Apartheid/Fascism
            2) Freedom from Religious-Persecution/Religious-Supremacy.
            3) Equality for all ethnicities and faiths in all aspects of policy, Law and Constitution.

Orang Asli, NEVER vote for BN lapdog Orang Asli, also never vote for Pakatan’s Oligarchs and nepotists. Run for independent candidacy if possible and DEMAND Equality and end of Apartheid! 14. TREES STAND IN THE WAY OF TAIB’S PBB BN ELECTION CAMPAIGN, TREE SPIRITS, BOYERT’S GHOST HAUNTS MacTAIB

It ironic that fallen trees have stopped Big Chief Jabu from landing his helicopter in his electioneering trip to the ulu.

We are now into the final act of the Sarawak tragedy play called “MacTaib”.

In Shakespeare’s epic tragedy “Macbeth”, the opposition army under camouflage of tree branches created an imagery of “Burnam Wood” moving to towards MacBeth’s castle on Dunsinane Hill at the end of his (wife’s) ambitious career move to the top. Macbeth is haunted by the ghost of someone he murdered.

MacTaib is also haunted by many spirits like tree spirits, Bruno and Ross’s ghosts, ghosts of ulu leaders who disappeared or died mysteriously…. MacTaib has appealed to too many witches and bomohs… they tell him double truths…

[Birnam Wood: Birnam Wood is a forest near Dunsinane Hill (Scotland). Malcolm’s men disguise themselves with tree branches so that when they approach Macbeth’s castle at Dunsinane, it looks as if the forest itself is moving and their numbers are concealed.

Dunsinane Hill: Dunsinane Hill is a hill on which Macbeth has a castle. This is where he stays to await Malcolm’s troops]

Taib, Jabu George (the Unholy Trinity) and gang have for over 47 years (including the Abdul Y Rahman years) have been felling trees and now fallen trees have symbolically stopped their progress! What poetic Justice!

The signs are not good for MacTaib and clan as this report below from Free Malaysia Today highlights the uprising of Sarawak Christians who are most unlikely to vote for PBB BN after the Bible fiasco!

Ulu rejection of BN and awakened Christians!
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

CHRISTIANS STAND UP FOR THEIR BELIEFS
    http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/2011/04/06/nationwide-prayer-rallies-for-sarawak-begin/

KUCHING: Four church networks across East and West Malaysia began a 12-day prayer rally for religious freedom in Sarawak on the eve of nomination day in the state’s 10th election.

The rallies will continue at different churches each night until Sarawakians go to the polls on April 16.

Last night, some 1,000-odd Christians filled the halls of three churches here as the rallies were carried out in English, Bahasa Melayu (BM) and Mandarin respectively.

Dayaks and a smattering of Indians packed the Good News Fellowship (GNF) where the rally was held in BM, while foreigners joined the predominantly Chinese crowd at the English language rally in Calvary Church. The Blessed Church also drew in a big crowd with the prayers conducted in Mandarin.

“The Sarawak network alone has 100 churches,” Pastor Jeff Wei of GNF told FMT.

“We’re not sure how many churches the other three networks have but the numbers are big. And we’re all praying together for a singular purpose.”

Just last month nearly 3,000 Christians came together in Sarawak’s biggest and first prayer rally to focus on religious freedom.”

The churches should not waste time and proceed to use their network more effectively. The UMNO PBB BN regimes have made clear they are going to clamp down on religious freedom!

    http://radiofreesarawak.org/2011/04/wednesday-642011/

Fellow Sarawakians, in the above news on RFS Web page RFS reports the first sign of ulu resistance to PBB BN election campaign in that ulu area.

The people chopped down trees on the helicopter landing site to prevent Big Chief Jabu from landing. This is first reported case of the ulu uprising. Will more villagers openly reject the BN This is a very daring declaration of war against PBB BN. The ulu people have always been portrayed as loyal to their BN masters. This is changing before our eyes!

The first rain drops have fallen. Let’s hope this will become the deluge we are waiting for.

May it develop into the raging river which will sweep away the corrupt regime!

    For a new Sarawak!

    • It’s the independent Orang Asli candidates that will determine the fate of East Malaysia. They must never let any political party from the Peninsular control them.

Who needs APARTHEID political parties? Sabah and Sarawak had better get Orang Asli candidates in ALL districts and return the racist favour. After winning, make sure that Orang Asli are considered EQUALS and APARTHEID ends, if they still won’t grant EQUALITY, then begin initiatives to secede with the UN or NAM or BRICS-SCO overseeing via a plebiscite.

Either way Orang Asli will never be second class citizens again. So vote *Orang Asli ONLY* and free yourselves by GE13!

      1) Freedom from Apartheid/Fascism
      2) Freedom from Religious-Persecution/Religious-Supremacy.
      3) Equality for all ethnicities and faiths in all aspects of policy, Law and Constitution.

      BARISAN – Apartheid, Nepotistic, Corrupt
PAKATAN – Nepotistic, Corrupt (barring PAS)
      3rd Force – Corrupt
Independent Orang Asli Candidate – ???

Choose the least dangerous or run for election yourself as an independent Nusantaran Animist Orang Asli Candidate.

  17. Looking like Ho has to fasten a millstone round his neck this time around. Bravo, PKR must have the deepest thought as whether to renominate him due to the recent concluded court case. As EC awaited with a super high alert level to pounce on him on the nomination day and great PKR escaped the snarl. Watch out for the many eventual loopholes guys. Vote BN out.

We need more efforts all round. We must also seek DIVINE assistance to fight the “devils”.
Let this be the beginning of a harmonious SARAWAK, our SARAWAK.
    Sarawak for all.

  19. No.71….Japar Bin Suyut? No chance of winning againts Awang Tanah! PKR need someone with more caliber….Japar he’s residing in Brunei. The best chance is to have a Lun Bawang candidate…..because 1/2″ of the voters are Lun Bawang….so you need to get the Chinese and some malays becuase not all malays support Awang Tanah…especially in inland Malays/Kedayan!

Idris? Better stay put where you now? What did you do to help your fellow Kelabit? NONE…..so dont hope to much on Lun Bawang voters! By the way, how many time di you visit Lawas…I mean from 70’s till now. 60’s probably.. becuase I know kelabit people has to walk from Bario/Bekalan/Semadoh/Lawas bcak then…..

  20. I still don’t see how PKR can self-claim to lead the opposition pact in sarawak. Why can’t they split with snap on the seats and have 20 odd constituency each to contest and more importantly, ensure straight fights between PR and BN save for the usual independents. While I am suspicious of SNAP, I still give it more credence and risk it with them than I would outsiders who did promise autonomy but then ‘cakap tak serupa bikin’. Is PKR aiming to win 36 seats out of 48 (75%) and then hope to form the govt by simple majority? PKR YB’s also have an uneviable record of ‘frogging’ too!

    • I am no supporter of PKR thou… every right thinking mind person knows that SNAP is BN friends oppositon! They are just in the game to become the spoilers…if they can break up the Dayak voters….BN win! That what they want…. we all know SNAP is funded indirectly by BN…through third parties….and 101% Datuk Sng is one of them! And dont you think Ting Peck King and the geng will stay put….I am sure they also putting in millions. If BN kaput…..they also kaput!

    • Politic is a game of deception and the rakyat especially the rural voters have been deceived by the greed of a few leaders in SNAP. Yet it seems that Pakatan Rakyat still hope that some candidates are committed to seek justice for the people and who among these candidates we do not know.

I am among the few friends and supporters of PR to sound the warning as early as two weeks ago and has urged PR to make an official and public announcement that SNAP has chosen to be an alliance of UMNO dominated BN and not Pakatan Rakyat.

Rural voters must know who to vote for if they are seeking justice and a change in government and that they must vote for Pakatan Rakyat’s coalition partners of DAP, PKR and PAS only.
