Hornbill Unleashed

A plea to Batu Lintang voters

Sim Kwang Yang

Dear friends,

I appeal to all of you to give your support to See Chee How, the PKR candidate in the Batu Lintang constituency, in the Sarawak state election on April 16.

I call on you to do this in order to teach Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud a lesson in democracy. Taib is one of the most powerful people in Malaysia because of his phenomenal wealth and he has plundered the wealth of Sarawak for over 30 years.

This election is the perfect time to let ‘people’s power’ to overwhelm Taib’s ‘money power’. We have to learn from the lessons of people’s power in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and the rest of the Arab world. In any democracy, the people reign supreme over money politics.

Sarawak is the richest state in natural resources, but after three decades of Taib’s rule, we are one of the poorest states in terms of socio-economic development.

After 30 long years of rule by Taib and his cronies, the youths of Sarawak have to go to Peninsular Malaysia and abroad o look for jobs and decent pay. Our dear motherland Sarawak has been turned by Taib into hell on earth for the dispossessed.

This state election is the most important opportunity for us to right the wrongs of the past. We all have a duty to go to the polling station on April 16 and cast our votes for Pakatan Rakyat.

I make this special appeal to give your full support to See Chee How (left) for I have known him personally, and trusted him completely, for many years.

I came to know See when he was only 18 years old. He supported my party, DAP, and campaigned ardently against Taib’s excesses. He took part in the 1982 general election as a frontline campaigner, and produced most of the DAP flags and banners for me personally.

He began his political career as a full-time party worker. Soon after, I appointed him as my personal secretary to further help the party and my parliamentary office in Kuching. He was dedicated to the welfare of the people and was an exemplary party worker in all ways.

Upon my retirement from politics in 1995 due to illness, See took up law and later qualified as a lawyer.

He has formed a long working partnership with Sarawak PKR chief and lawyer Baru Bian, and they are both leading figures in the indigenous people’s fight for the their land rights. Both See and Baru have taken up over 150 native land rights cases. I support them fully in their cause.

Baru is the candidate for the constituency of Ba’Kelalan, and I too call on the voters of Ba’Kelalan to give him their full support.

Money and power

Politics in our part of the world is often seen as dirty. That is because most Malaysians who go into politics are in it for money and power.

NONEBut See and Baru (right) are a different brand of politicians. They champion the aspirations of all honest Sarawakians.

They are in politics to see justice done for the dispossessed people in our society.

This is probably the most important election in the history of Sarawak. It gives us a chance to change the bitter history of our beloved state.

All members of the PKR and DAP must combine forces to put a check on the corruption and he abuse of power that have grieved Sarawak for decades. This is the time we can show the true power of the vote to the Barisan Nasional.

We all love our Land of the Hornbill. But unfortunately, Sarawak has been pillaged by corrupt politicians for too long. In this general election, we must regain justice for the people by giving back power to ordinary Sarawakians.

We must release the hornbill from the bondage of money politics.

SIM KWANG YANG was member of parliament for Bandar Kuching, Sarawak from 1982 to 1995. He can be reached at sky8hornbill@gmail.com. All comments are welcomed.

  1. Pakatan belongs ONLY in Peninsular Malaysia and has no business in Sarawak or East Malaysia. There will be a similar situation if Pakatan takes over where BN left off, so do not vote for either BN(Apartheid) or Pakatan(Nepotism).

Local Orang Asli and Sarawakians, vote for LOCAL PARTIES that are unaligned with BN. Do not let Pakatan become another BN by allowing them to dominate both Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia. That would give Pakatan too much power and this scenario must not be allowed.

Pakatan may not be APARTHEID but they must not be allowed hegemony over both East and Peninsular Malaysia either. Orang Aslis and Sarawakians, vote for your own locals, DO NOT allow Peninsular Parties to take control of East Malaysia now that BN’s influence ended. You are merely signing away power to Peninsular parties AGAIN.

Vote local East Malaysian parties only! And non-BN(APARTHEID) or non-PR (Nepotist) parties at that!

    • AgreeToDisagree isn’t Taib a orang Sarawak, He is not from Malaya, what about all your SNAP,SUPP, independents etc parties aren’t they also orang Sarawak? What have they done for you other than steal your periuk nasi from your people. Look at Lim Guan Eng, he is from Malacca and he is running a clean Govt. in Penang, with the remarks from the Auditor General’s Report stating it is the best run state. Maybe it is time to UBAH, till you can clean up your act in Sarawak. Politics in Sarawak is a family business which your people have been blindly following till they have raped you and your families out of everything. Look at the mad scramble for some tupperwares yesterday in Kuching, Do I look down upon those people, Nope I do not, it goes to show how poor and desperate people have become even tupperware also want to rush. When you have nothing, than nothing matters anymore, your dignity can be bought for some trinkets and beads maybe with some tuak thrown in, What than throw in your daughters for some trinkets too? What is the price of your dignity?
Maybe go for a change and see what happens, if Pakatan is no good than kick them out, but you have to start somewhere, the same old same old mix does not work anymore, you had Taib for 30 years and they are your locals who have robbed you, your Sarawak Parties cannot survive without Pakatan, This does not only involve Sarawak this involves the whole of Malaysia, If Pakatan does not work we shall kick their butts. Hard very hard. So think about it you may not agree with me and disagree but what about your childrens future, don’t you want to put those thieves behind bars?

At this material time, who are the people who care and have the gut to tell off your friend TM to play kite.Look around you if you are really from Sarawak: the sickening situations and the wide gap between the rich and the poor. You too can play marble underneath TM and he will take care of you.

    • I agree that Pakatan may not be a goog party, BUT so far it is the best alternative for Sarawakians, the only only viable vehicle capable of toppling BN and Taib. Can SUPP, SPDP, PRS, SNAP do that? NO. NOT A CHANCE.
So we and PAKATAN work together and gid rid of Taib Mahmud. So the question here is not about West Malaysian ruling us, robbing us, etc. But helping us to get rid of Taib Mahmud. Simple as that. And do not ignore the overwhelming evidence of corruption and nepotism committed by Taib and his family and crony. Please open your eyes. Do not let Annuar factor clouded your vision. Thanks.

  2. Najib is embarking on 6-day ‘I Help You, You Help Me’ blitz in Sarawak. This is clearly a desperate move from Najib.

Najib knows that if Sarawak were to lose two-thirds majority; even worse, losing the state to Pakatan, then Umno may put the blame on him. Dpm Muhyiddin Yassin stands to gain the most from this defeat (which does not altered the power of the federal government). Muhyiddin is not younger than Najib, so it is not possible for him to wait until Najib retires. Dpm could be sabotaging Najib given such opportunity?

For Najib, it is a ‘do or die’ fight for his own survival. But the door is beginning to open for Dpm?

  3. When these UMNOputra morons and their lapdogs have become fearful of even their own shadows, not only Chin Huat but any decent citizen of this Bolehland will be persecuted with impunity.

Insititutions of governance such as the Judiciary, PDRM, MACC, Imigration (just to name a few) have become rotten to the core, no thanks to the evil Mamakthir Muhamad Kutty.

If Altantuya’s immigration records showing her entry into the country can be erased and the perpetrator has not been identified, we will never know the hidden hand behind Chin Huat’s episode.

Najis and the evil mafia gang guided by the evil mamak might think their shenanigans is working. They are in for a rude shock when the Sarawak election results are known. Then they might even bar any cerama, rally or house-to-house canvassing by the Opposition.

Their weapon in the form of a sleaze porno video made no doubt by the infamous Datuk T has backfired. Instead of blackening Anwar’s name, it has only shown how desperate the Barisan Neraka clowns have become.

Don’t be surprised if they release another video to embarrass Anwar and family. They have Ummi who said she has a lot hot videos to release. She might be the female participant in those videos being a self-confessed VIRGIN. Funny thing the lame dick UMNOputras have not been able to penetrate her wall!

April 2011 will into the annals of history when the Sarawakians finally booted out the Satan Pek Moh and got their freedom from slavery and colonialism.

    Keep fighting Sarawakians.

  5. The reason for change is very, very simple. Sarawak’s current autonomy is the autonomy of one man and his band of cronies, not the autonomy of its people. Under that autonomy, foreign spouses of selected individuals can be bumiputera, while genuine bumiputera such as Penan have a hard time getting ICs, and are increasingly marginalised. Under that autonomy, one family and its companies take in revenue that are easily more than 10% of Sarawak’s GDP. Under that autonomy, a handful of companies have come to control Sarawak’s economy — from shipping to supermarkets and hotels to instant noodles, newspapers, plantations, timber, housing, with perhaps the only area still not under their control the undertaker business. Under that autonomy, the richest state in the country in terms of natural resource still has amongst the highest rate of poverty — with the poverty of the rural people, where so much of that natural resource wealth is located, being at least 10%, as measured officially, and likely much higher if measured more strictly.

So, under that autonomy, people the man and band of cronies don’t like are kept out, while foreign workers flood in. Think of it, immigration autonomy was meant to protect Sarawakian jobs. But who’s kept out? Not people who are threatening Sarawakians their jobs. Look into any plantation — over 90% are foreign workers. Indeed, look into logging operations and, unlike before, an increasing proportion are also foreign workers. Look at the woodprocessing plants in Bintulu — easily 40% are foreign workers. Now you know why the wage rates are so low, and why Sarawakians in the thousands and tens of thousands leave to look for jobs in Malaya, in Brunei, in Singapore and further afield.

Under the autonomy you speak of, Sarawakians are threatened over how they vote, as if it’s not the people who select the government, but the government who select the people. Indeed, it’s looking very much that way — as what happened in Sabah. If the present bunch of leaders don’t like the people’s decision, they may well decide to change the people. Already, Suai-Niah is 1/4 foreign, Sebauh is 1/5 foreign, Belaga is rapidly getting there as is Marudi and Tatau.

Yes. Change is needed for real autonomy: the autonomy of the people.

  10. Voters of Sarawak, the time has come for action! Cast your vote for Pakatan Rakyat! Remember, SNAP is not part of Pakatan Rakyat and may be a trojan horse! Make sure all SNAP candidates lose their deposits. Remember, Sarawakians, the main aim is to deny the BN their 2/3 majority, and SNAP is a spanner in the works.

Christians of Sarawak, you must show your displeasure with the defacements of your Holy Bible, you MUST demand that the PM drop the appeal of the judgment of the High Court where the Christians can use the word Allah in their prayers! This drop of appeal must be done before 16th of April, or all Christians in Sarawak, wake up and vote Pakatan Rakyat! If after the Sarawak election, and the appeal against the High Court decision is reversed, will it not be probable that your Holy Bible may be recalled or consficated?

If you are not further antagonized by the arrogance of a Government that never learn, read this article. Just why is the Government allowing someone to threaten and intimidate the minority? Do not allow ourselves to be divided by race and religion. Tell this to BN in no uncertain terms! Show it through your votes, vote out BN in as many consituency as possible and remember come the next GE, deliver the 35-40 winnable seats to Pakatan Rakyat and Malaysians will see the dawn of a new era.

It is going to rain money all over Sarawak, demand, demand and demand! Do not be happy to accept RM50 which is an insult to Sarawakians. Demand a minimum of 500 ringgits per person, they will pay, they are desperate. Remember, the PM is in Sarawak, and also he is the Finance Minister. The money belongs to the people, YOU!
Again, be reminded, the going rate should be at least RM500 per person, take the money and COME POLLING DAY, VOTE PAKATAN RAKYAT!

I attach an article for you reading pleasures and for you to make a stand. Do you wish to be threatened this way, majority Sarawakians?

No matter what the PM tells you, just keep quiet, do not believe what he is going to promise as he will not be able to deliver his promises, he had not done so since April, 2009. If “wa tolong lu, lu tolong gua’ ambil saja, but never ever be intimidated and threatened this way again.

Let us all unite as Satu Anak Bangsa Malaysia, do not ever allow the evil politicians to divide us by race and religion again! NEVER MUST WE FALL INTO THIS TRAP AGAIN! They had used it against us for the past 54 years! Be united, Sarawakians, let us together ensure BN falls or at least we deny them their 2/3 majority!

Do not ever be enticed with sweeteners, accept whatever they give, but when it comes to voting, Vote Pakatan Rakyat! Selamatkan Malaysia, Sarawakians! Salam Reformasi!

  14. This plea will fall on deaf ears. Orang Asli will only vote for Orang Asli and non-lapdog Orang Asli at that, NO MORE BN, NO REPLACMENTS FOR BN via PR. Go back to the Peninsular PR fools, you haven’t even ended apartheid there!

This will help voters decide that 3rd Force Coalition as proposed below is the best choice for the people :

Barisan Coalition – Apartheid, Corrupt and Nepotistic Oligarchs
Pakatan Coalition – Corrupt and Nepotistic Oligarchs
3rd Force Coalition – Corruption Only
Independent – ??? (maybe no corruption AND good policy?)

So it is simple, just choose the Coalition with the LEAST flaws.

Proposed 3rd Force Coalition is made up of KITA, MCLM, PCM, Borneo Front, Konsensus Bebas, HRP, PSM should call in MIC, Gerakan, PPP as well! End the APARTHEID and work with any non-Oligarchs in Pakatan!

So it is simple, just choose the Coalition with the LEAST flaws. Run for candidacy if not! Time to end APARTHEID and kick out nepotists, foreign power infiltrators (DAP), lapdogs (MCA/MIC/PPP/Gerakan – unless they leave BN to become a swing vote) and racists (BN) !

    1) Freedom from Apartheid/Fascism
    2) Freedom from Religious-Persecution/Religious-Supremacy.
    3) Equality for all ethnicities and faiths in all aspects of policy, Law and Constitution.

Orang Asli, NEVER vote for BN lapdog Orang Asli, also never vote for Pakatan’s Oligarchs and nepotists. Run for independent candidacy if possible and DEMAND Equality and end of Apartheid! Do not vote for anyone who will not do all the above, vote for local Orang Asli and non-lapdogs only!

This scum and thief will have be known in history for the deserved infamy of turning large parts of Sarawak into desert areas as erosion start to wear down the soil.

This happened to Haiti when its forests were stripped and the land left bare.

‘Haiti is basically denuded, compounding aid problems. As stated in an AP article, here in the Chicago SunTimes:

Almost everything has to be imported, even wood for building temporary shelters, because Haitians have denuded their hillsides by cutting trees for cooking fuel.

“If you see Dominican Republic and Haiti from the air, it’s really striking,” said Byrs. “Half of the island is green and the rest is dust.”

Check out the Sarawak Report satellite pictures of the vast bare – DENUDED areas of Sarawak. It won’t be very long you start seeing yellow brown soil without vegetation and then the formation of deserts.

Taib will be enjoying his ill gotten proceeds in some palace overseas or be protected by UMNO so he will escape the wrath of the people and lawful justice!
