“We must prove that we are still the BN safe deposit. We are going to support Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak with the much needed two-third majority or even bigger,” he said when opening the Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party’s (SPDP) Ninth Triennial General Assembly at the Civic Centre here today.Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud wants all state Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to go all out to ensure a two-third majority win in the coming election.
“We all want a strong government at the national level. I believe all the people want this. Sarawak will play a big role in this,” he added.
He said Najib was a leader who can unite all races in the country and had enough experience to rule well and to deliver promises or pledges made.
Taib said it was absolutely essential that the ordinary people were told the message so that the country could continue to be well governed for their own benefit.
“For my PBB (Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu), the message to all members is to forget everything but ensure a total win for all candidates of the coalition in all constituencies contested.
“I am glad SPDP, as stressed earlier in his speech by its president William Mawan, is on the same course. I believe, our other partners like the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and the Party Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) will also be equal to the task,”
Taib also stressed whatever problems faced by any component parties should not be stirred when the election came.
“People who have problems within their own parties should bury their
differences and work for the common good of BN. I believe the signs are there that they will work together,” he said adding that the two-third majority was only a conservative figure as he expected an even bigger win.
“I do not want to boast and I have yet to do the analysis of the winnable seats. But we are very capable of achieving this.”
He also said he would leave it to the prime minister to select all the state BN candidates for the election as this was a parliamentary election.
