Why did you keep quiet, why didn’t you stop it – Ambiga slams Hisham over “KILL TIAN CHUA”

Why did you keep quiet, why didn't you stop it - Ambiga slams Hisham over "KILL TIAN CHUA"

Malaysia Chronicle

BERSIH co-chairman Ambiga Sreenevasan slammed Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein for not chastising a crowd of mostly Umno youths who had called for an Opposition politician Tian Chua to be killed.

“I saw the article where the Home Minister was speaking in Gombak and where the audience retorted ‘Kill Tian Chua’ and I think it is one of the most shocking things I have seen. And what should the Home Minister have done when those comments were made? Did he keep quiet? Clearly he had kept quiet. He should have put a stop to it immediately,” Ambiga said at a political briefing organized by Tan Kee Kwong, the PKR candidate for the Wangsa Maju constituency, on Sunday night.

Exterminate traitors, Kill Tian Chua

Indeed, it looks like Hisham – known more for his political blunders than for his accomplishments – may have stirred up another hornet’s nest for himself and his beleaguered Umno party.

At a press conference on Sunday, he admitted a rise in political violence as seen in the unruly mobs who did not hesitate to physically attack Opposition speakers at pre-election rallies held throughout the country. Hisham, however, was quick to pin the blame on Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and his Pakatan Rakyat coalition, saying they brought it upon themselves.

Yet just hours earlier, Hisham himself used violent words urging Malaysian youths at a BN rally to “exterminate traitors” such as Tian Chua, the PKR MP for Batu whom the Minister accused of insulting the Armed Forces over the recent Lahad Datu intrusion.

Not surprisingly, Hisham’s provocative words stirred violent response from the crowd who shouted “Kill Tian Chua”after he asked ““Whose hand is it behind the intrusion, is there a third party involved? Who is this person who would forsake his own race and nation just because he wants power?”

Hang Ambiga

The doublespeak from Hisham, who is also Prime Najib Razak’s cousin, is unlikely to go unnoticed or be well received by the majority of Malaysian voters. Last year, an Umno MP had sparked public outrage when he urged Parliament to hang Ambiga because of the public awareness for free and fair polls she had created with the BERSIH movement.

According to the Umno MP for Sri Ganding Mohamad Aziz, what Ambiga and Bersih movement had done was harmful to the country and should be punished. However, due to the enormous public backlash over his call to “hang Ambiga”, Mohamad Aziz was forced to retract his words.

I have beaten Datuk Ambiga for the most number of police reports

Tian Chua, who was also at the Wangsa Maju briefing, was given a hero’s welcome when he made a surprise appearance.

“I have created a record in the Guinness World Records. The man who has received the most number of police reports. So I have beaten Datuk Ambiga. I have received more than 10,000 SMSes. I have become Public Enemy No 1.  While the country was fighting against violent Sulu militants, I was relentlessly attacked even more than the Sulu militants. But will this solve the problem?

“This afternoon, Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein himself in Gombak at an Umno Youth rally, some people called for Tian Chua to be killed in front of the Home Minister and the Home Minister himself said Tian is a traitor and not qualified to be a citizen.

“This came from a minister. If it’s true the Home Minister wants to strip me of my citizenship, to less one citizen because we have now allowed so many Sulus to come, what is less one Tian Chua. But the issue is, this won’t solve the problem. Even if they kill, me the country won’t be safe.”
