Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Awang Tengah’s recent accusations against Pakatan Rakyat are “shallow” and “irresponsible”.

Sarawak DAP and PKR have lodged police reports against Senior Minister Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, accusing him sedition.

Awang Tengah had reportedly said that if Pakatan Rakyat came into power, they would introduce a “Malaysian Malaysia” concept which “abolishes the right to NCR ownerships”.

Awang Tengah had further accused the opposition pact of  “right now fanning NCR issues for political mileage”.

Slamming Awang Tengah’s comments as “baseless” and seditious DAP secretary Chong Chieng Jen said no way in their manifesto was there an idea to abolish native customary rights (NCR) land.

“In our manifesto under the title ‘The fraternity of the people’, it is specifically stated that Pakatan Rakyat will preserve natives’ customary land rights and welfare.

“So what Awang Tengah was talking about is baseless, and such allegation is seditious. He should apologise and withdraw his statement,” Chong said.

He also demanded that Awang Tengah withdraw his statement and apologise, saying that it clearly showed the Minister to be “shallow” and “irresponsible.

Chong, a lawyer and Bandar Kuching incumbent, said that so far in Sarawak there are 200 court cases against the government   who wrongly extinguished NCR land rights and alienated such land to crony companies.

“These are the true actions on the part of BN to abolish land right. This is wrong and should Pakatan Rakyat become government we will right the wrong.

Slanderous statement

Meanwhile, PKR state deputy chairman See Chee How called on police to  take immediate action against Awang Tengah for his “slanderous” accusations.

“It appears that the minister is making an accusation that the victory  of national political parties will cause the abolishment of NCR, which is untrue.

“Pakatan Rakyat is the only coalition which openly declared its fullest support to defend and restore NCR in accordance with the judicious decision of Courts.

“The Courts have recognized NCR over ‘pemakai menua’ and ‘pulau’ in accordance with the ‘Adat’ of the various indigenous communities in Sarawak.

“State Pakatan Rakyat leaders are also on the forefront in fighting against land grabs and defending NCR of various native communities in courts,” he said.

See, who is also a NCR lawyer and Batu Lintang assemblyman, added that Awang Tengah’s statement “runs foul inciting hatred against the Malaysian Federation by implying that the federation had intended the abolishment of NCR over land, which is misleading and seditious.”

Awang Tengah is also the Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment. The state ministry is led by Chief Minister Taib Mahmud.

  1. Tengah and Taib are Minister of Resource Planning/Management. I suggest their portfolio to be changed to Resource Mismanagement. Can someone tell me the function of James Masing (Minister of Land Development). FELCRA, RISDA , FELDA are all under Shafie Apdal, SALCRA under Jabu, what is James Masing doing?

  2. These “senior” liars and thieves don’t have any credibility. Awang Tengah’s claims of being misquoted make him look even stupider. Masing misquoted him too? Or didn’t Masing get the “U-turn” memo?

  3. Rosmah Mansor and Mahathir’s family are now busy planning to transport out of the country tons of gold and cash. The royal families in Malaysia are also aware of their desperate moves. Election observers and volunteers must report of any unusual movements in all airports and military airfields throughout the country.

  11. When Pakatan takes over, they will not only preserve the rights of NCR lands, but they will reclaim back the lands stolen by Awang Tanah, his land grabbing master and cronies to the rightful native owners!

    • Yes, you are right but most the native in the rural area are just too poor and they don’t really care about democracy or human right. Most of them are happy with $100 or $500 BN’s bribes. They also think BN can track their vote . It is so sad.

      Comment by rcc — April 29, 2013 @ 8:37 PM | Reply

      • Yes, there are the headmen who have the ang pow from BN will tell their longhouse folks not to go against BN, and BN is their god and heaven. What human rights, what land grab, what future. no need to care about. Most important is BN ministers come always to give money and projects and they end up like beggars

So BN will continue to keep them poor and like beggars so that they will be 100% loyal to BN

  12. Police report is better lodged other wise they will ask “Ada buat polis report tak? Kalau tak ada report, tak dapat buat tindakan.”

The police are paid by taxpayers money so they are at the behest of the people.

Why blame sarawak opposition politicians? Is sabah free from umno bn already? How come sabah allowed umno to come in the first place.

Do not blame sarawakians for this. The dayaks were never united in the first place from pbds to snap.

If sabah is free from umno bn then you, anti-malayan colonialism can say that.

  13. The thieves in BN Sarawak are crying wolf in Dayak heartland. Who legislated the Sarawak Land Code which extinguished the rights of hundreds of thousands hectares of NCR lands? Its Taib mahmud and his BN lawmakers. Rural Dayaks might be naive or even ignorant but they are not stupid.

    Comment by Affendi Nawawi — April 29, 2013 @ 2:50 PM | Reply

    • But still there are manty thousands of Dayaks who choose to wait on the raining of projects and BN instant goodies when BN ministers come into area to campaign that oppositions are just good with talking only but cannot give any material things and ringgit. This is the mind blocking mentality of those who are blind to the corruption and poor administration of the country and states. To them, these BN menteri are god, super star gods, goverment that should not be challenged of any wrong doing.

      • These natives are too poor to care about anything. All they want is $$$$.

  14. Awang Tengah said he was misquoted but James Masing repeated what Awang Tengah had said. So who was telling lie and who was telling the truth?

    Comment by Bidayuh Headmaster — April 29, 2013 @ 12:39 PM | Reply

    • If masing repeated what awang tanah has said, both are guilty of telling lies which BN is peddling as the truth to confused us.

Did awang tanah and any of the BN lawyers ever defended any NCR land owners against taib’s land grabbing cronies? I think its time somebody list down and expose every acres of land this awang tanah owns and how he come to own those lands. That would unearth the truth obout his statement which he now refuse to be responsible for. And this is from an idiot who wants to be the next boss of the BN bosses.

  15. Malaysia has broken world record of making police reports by political parties and personnel. So, after police reports being made, what are actions that can been seen taken? It all depends on on who make the reports, BN or PR? Police also headache seeing these reports that they cannot take action acoording to laws. Now law makers are taking the lead to break laws and turning Malaysia into lawless country.

Only hope is to have government changed, adminsitration systems back-online again, then police can perform properly

    Comment by Sarawak Voters Bersatu — April 29, 2013 @ 11:26 AM | Reply

  16. Really, has sabah been freed from Umno control already?

Who are the sabah politicians who sold their souls to umno when it came it? Do not just blame sarawak opposition politicians only!

Only if Sabah is FREE from umno than you can say that!

If you mention Star, they did not contest at all in the sarawak state elections in 2011, just blowing hot air. I really hope Star wins a few seats and see what happens, will they remain independent or become “Pr-friendly” or “Bn-friendly.”

Even Snap, the local sarawak party could not even unite properly. Why don’t blame them!

    Comment by Anti-Umno/Bn — April 29, 2013 @ 10:43 AM | Reply

Why have we become a people so addicted to “police reports” . Isn’t it like running to “mummy” crying for help? Can’t we stand up an tackle the issues on our own?

Instead of running to the police every time and making them feel important why not rally the people to educate them on the issues raised? The good and the bad points?

It is just political hot air and nonsense for Tengah to claim that making the system more “people friendly” would bring disaster to them unless of course it was promoted by the failed BNUMNO gov’t?

Have the people reacted violently to his statement? No! They are asleep or feeling lethargic and helpless because the Opposition is not empowering the people enough to think independently.

Lastly why are Sarawak politicians so enamoured with the Malaysia Federation which was created to re-colonise Sarawak and Sabah. It is just a cheap point to score!

The situation in Sabah is a huge contrast where the local opposition independent of Malayan colonial control, stand up and fight for Sabah independence rights.

Only in Sarawak we see opposition politicians swearing allegiance to foreign control.

In Sabah they call them “traitors”.

  18. Sarawak Report should publish all the NCR land court cases against the Sarawak State Government led by the thief minister Taib Mahmud. Expose their blatant lies. Dayaks became squatters in their own lands because of the dibolokmen policy of the very greedy and corrupted thief minister of Sarawak.
