OMG! EC forgot to shake the bottle? Please stop shaking the rakyat!J. D. Lovrenciear

What do we make out of all these as we gingerly dash to the polls? If the Opposition had not highlighted the disappearing indelible ink, would anyone of us rakyat – the voting population, ever know this extremely serious and far implicating negligience or action on the part of the EC?

Or what if this was discovered only after the GE-13 date? Would not the nation sink into mayhem? Who will take responsibility? Where is our sense of safeguarding national integrity and pride in this world of instant conncetivity?

And now that the saga has spilled onto the public domain – thanks to the internet and responsible reporting by on-line media Malaysiakini and others, what response do we get from the EC?

Initial reports show that the EC was defensive if not anything else. The head of EC gave a lukewarm reply saying that he will wait for the police to investigate first.

He could have affirmatively said, “Yes we are aware of this and are already seeking assitance from all parties including the reporting Opposition Party members because this is a very serious matter that is within the responsibility of EC to address without fear or favor.” But he didn’t. Period.

Next, we read that the blame is shoved onto the staff of EC. That they forgot to follow procedures. That they were supposed to shake the bottle. That the ink must be shaken first before applying otherwise the non-disappearing ink will dissappear. OMG!

Come on EC, stop shaking the rakyat!

The indelible ink is an indelible medium. The administrator of the ink is the EC. That ink is for the most defining moment in the history of this nation. That defining moment has far reaching consequences not only for all voters and contenders but also for the entire nation of 29 million people. That indelible ink also has far reaching determinants on the entire region and all across the democratic world. A general election in today’s networked global society is no more an internal matter. That ink therefore is the mark of true democarcy at work. True or not true?

How could you have responded with the excuse that staff did not follow procedures? How could staff not have followed the rules and requirements if those proceedures are of such gagantum consequences and critical importance?

Who is behind this gross and serious failure? Who, EC? And why, EC? The rakyat have a right to know and they must know now – well before we go voting. Otherwise, the EC head and all his bandwagon team must be sacked for failing this nation.

Just dismissing this whole screw-up by a mere statement that staff forgot to follow procedures cannot absolve responsibility that falls squarly on the EC head’s shoulders.

Malaysians, does the buck stop here or are we to let more questionable failures to keep flowing under the bridge? Or shall we just treat this mess up by EC as just another small hiccup in a tea-cup? Or shall we just dismiss it all as another opposition gimmick that is a standard ‘politicking’.? Or shall we all just laugh over it at the wariongs and carry on with life?

Indeed, only Malaysians can determine whether they uphold democracy to the letter or are resigned into a ‘who cares’ zone of indifference.

  1. The EC has lost its credibility, dignity, independence and respect from all Malaysian voters.

  2. A few soldiers had shown that the indelible ink can be washed off by using thinner. First attempt, 90% washed off on first day. Second attempt using thinner and soap completely washed off the indelible ink on second day.

We are not buying anymore excuses. A few hundred thousand foreigners registered as Malaysian voters are flying in and the police and armies can easily vote twice. What will Malaysians do next ?

BN which has never known what it is like to be out of power will do everything and anthing to remain in power. It is hell bent in using religious and race cards to spin all kinds of lies and stoke fear. It is even willing to sell the future of our children and next generation to illegal immigrants who have been imported in the hundred of thousands to vote for BN
