Sarawak PKR has expressed regret that Yang di-Pertuan Agong has been ill-advised on the decree he issued that non-Muslims of Sabah and Sarawak are banned from uttering the word ‘Allah’, despite knowing full well that the two states are secular.

“It is most unfortunate that he has been ill-advised,” Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian said in response to the decree by the Agong.

This decree was actually made by Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah in his capacity as the Sultan of Kedah.

His Majesty said in Alor Setar on Sunday that ‘Allah’ is to be used exclusive by Muslims and that non-Muslims are banned from uttering the word.

‘Federal constitution is supreme’

Baru said: “Our response is that he is the head of Islam for Sabah and Sarawak, which have no state rulers, but he has no jurisdiction over non-Muslims  on the matter of religion.

“It is most unfortunate that his advice came at this time when The Herald case is pending in the Federal Court.

“We are shocked and surprised to hear the Agong saying that the word cannot be used by non-Muslims.”

“That is our stand,” said Baru, who is Ba’Kelalan assemblyperson and a devout Christian of the SIB denomination, who pointed out that Malaysia is a secular state, unlike other countries such as Iran.

Baru added: “We are taught in the law schools of local universities that Article 4 of the federal constitution states that the federal constitution is supreme in Malaysia.

“All the powers of the three branches of government – Parliament, the executive, including the rulers and the prime minister, and the judiciary, are derived from the constitution.

“It is clear in the constitution that the Agong or the sultan of the states, have no jurisdiction over non-Muslims.”

  1. Agree with Baru Bian. If the Constitution lose its relevance, then the country is degenerating into anarchy. It is such a shame that the King himself had breached the articles of the Constitution. Perhaps its a sure sign that the social fabric that held society together as has been enshrined in the Constitution is slowly unravelling.

  2. Baru Bian got his facts wrong.

    Read this again:

Sabah is not even secular anymore and Islam is its official religion. Its constitution has been amended to make Islam the official religion and it also passed a religious control enactment banning filthy najis kafir from using “holy” words reserved for superior purer-than-pure Muslims.

Sarawak is secular in name with Islam as the de facto official religion. The treacherous Taib regime is using public funds to support official Islamic institutions, mosques and Islamic schools. It just hasn’t been made into law yet, i.e., the passing of a constitutional amendment and a religious control enactment, because the sons of Allah don’t have the numbers in Sarawak.

  3. We should be making bridges to reach one another instead of creating barriers to harmony. CNY is coming soon let make the nation more sane for Malaysian to live tolerant of each other.

  4. He should made known that without Sarawak/Sabah; Malaya is nothing!

  5. Baru Bian,

Look around and see if there is anything worth pointing out. … which is especially useful for people who are still getting to know one another better rather than mumbling over and over again over the same “ Allah” issue. I know this is cartoon story only just like the kangkong story – I wonder what’s gonna happen to Christian in Malaysia if Muslim in Malaysia called their Allah in different name? Will Christian be bothered or claimed the same too??

    • Facts are so inconvenient, aren’t they?

Boy: the emperor has no clothes!

Baru Bian: my 2X5 king has no brain!

Why is it not worth it to point out important basic facts about the political system, facts that affect EVERYBODY’S LIFE?

On the one hand, you want people not to think and keep their mouths shut. On the other hand, you expect kids to do better in school without thinking critically and knowing important basic facts. So which is it? Do you want people to stay dumb and ignorant OR do you want people to be educated?
