Taib Plans To Commission A Better Reputation

Taib Plans To Commission A Better Reputation

Sarawak Report

Taib has grabbed the Governorship, but now he is worrying about his reputation.

In his outgoing speech as Chief Minister he chose to focus on the international bad publicity over his destruction of the rainforest; his rolling out of oil palm plantations and his self-enrichment in the process.

Clearly, this matter has spoiled his promotion party and it is preoccupying his mind.

As usual, he blamed “malicious attacks” by NGOs and he called on Malaysia’s “envoys” to repair his reputation across the globe.

Then he came out with some claims that have produced gasps and astonished laughter.

What Taib did to Sarawak's world famous rain forests50% of forest ‘untouched’!

The new Governor announced that he has “managed Sarawak’s forests quite well” and “looked after the interests” of the Penan tribespeople, many of whom are in fact starving now that the forest is destroyed.

As listeners sought to re-capture their breath at such bold lies, the clearly self-deluded despot then went on to seriously claim that he has left 50% of Sarawak’s forests so they “cannot be touched” and that no less than 84% of the state is still covered by forest:

Regarding forest issues, Sarawak has policies on forest reserves to make sure that 50 per cent of our forests cannot be ‘touched’, in fact 84 percent of the state is still covered by forest.”[Bernama]

Such a precise figure as 84% is particularly ridiculous, given the rampant and uncontrolled illegal logging that is stripping out the last remaining forests in the state, all of it carried out by crony companies linked to Taib.

Managed quite well? This destruction is all over Baram.

A glance at the ravaged hillsides of the Baram regions, which are presently sliding into Sarawak’s rivers or at the satellite images showing the shocking destruction of what was till recently pristine rainforest, exposes the old man’s statistics as a pack of lies.

So, no surprise that Taib’s core claim in this speech was that of honesty!

“Honesty has been my leadership principle” he told his hand-picked audience, not one of whom would have honestly agreed.

Stripping out whatever's left

After all, how does an honest Chief Minister convert himself from a penniless student into the head of one of Asia’s richest families over 40 years on a mere ministerial salary?

Taib is no Mahatma Gandhi.

He is, in fact, the head of South East Asia’s biggest timber mafia, a matter that is compellingly detailed in a new book on Sarawak, published this week in Switzerland and which will soon be available in English.

The author, Dr Lukas Straumann of Bruno Manser Fund told Sarawak Report:

“Under Taib Mahmud, Sarawak has become one of the hotspots of the global crisis of tropical forests. Less than 10 per cent of primeval forests remain and indigenous forest communities like the Penan have been forced to abandon their traditional way of life.”

So, do we believe Taib’s claim of 50% ‘untouched’ rainforest?

Dishonesty has been the foundation of Taib’s management of Sarawak.  He is a man who sadly studied the law, only in order to know better how to break it.

The NGO Global Witness has issued their own fact sheet detailing the full scale of Taib’s lies over his management of Sarawak.

It says that only 65% of the state remains forested and the vast majority of that is heavily degraded, much of it “degraded beyond recovery”:

Satellite images show that only 5 per cent of Sarawak’s forests remain in a pristine state (unaffected by logging or plantations Independent analysis of satellite images shows Sarawak has a higher deforestation rate than any other major tropical timber producer and that the deforestation rate is increasing”.[Global Witness fact sheet]

Reputation management

Taib hired FBC Media on a $15million contract to boost his reputation

So now Taib’s critics have been put on notice to await his next wave of ‘reputation envoys’.

Sarawak Report has already experienced its fair share of Taib’s hired PR managers and learnt that they operate by going on the attack.

Firstly, there was FBC Media, a bunch of London-based crooks, who cheated their way into TV news and broadcasted promotional films about Taib Mahmud, while hiring poison bloggers in the US to defame and criticise Sarawak Report.

Next, through his son-in-law Sean Murray, he hired another UK PR outfit, Bell Pottinger, to worm their way around the internet improving his own Wikipedia sites, while placing unpleasant attacks on Wikipedia sites set up about the authors of Sarawak Report.

Both these sets of attackers were exposed. FBC Media was closed down and Wikipedia banned Bell Pottinger’s ‘sock-puppets’.

PR jungle stunt with Ben Fogle

So, Taib then hired yet another UK PR company, Hills Balfour, to do another positive PR blitz working ‘new media’ to try and create a positive tourism image for Sarawak.

Hills Balfour engaged the popular TV adventurer Ben Fogle, who promoted Sarawak as an ‘eco-tourism’ destination.

After we exposed the reality behind Ben’s ‘jungle adventures’, Fogle pulled out, said he was sorry and gave money to a rainforest charity.

Next, things got even nastier. Sarawak Report and Radio Free Sarawak had already experienced expensive DDOS attacks and radio jamming, financed by Malaysian Government sources, but then someone turned to robbery and hacking.

Attacker pleading it is under attack! The now defunct Malay Messenger

Just before GE13 the mobile phone of Sarawak Report’s editor was robbed and within a few minutes it was used to hack their gmail account.

Within days distorted versions of some of those gmails were put up on a website in Malaysia (Malay Messenger, now defunct) to give the impression that the Editor of Sarawak Report was executing a grand plan to steal Sarawak’s oil reserves!

This scenario fitted in closely with Taib Mahmud’s earlier accusation to the State Assembly that the Editor of Sarawak Report was engaged in a bizarre plan to re-coloniseSarawak for the British.

Interestingly it was the Taib family owned newspaper, New Sarawak Tribune, which first drew public attention to this Malay Messenger website.  Was this a coincidence?

Meanwhile, a covert campaign was simultaneously taking place back in the UK, where the robbery had originally been carried out.

Owned by the Taibs and Edited by daughter Hanifah. Sarawak Tribune moves to support her father's insane claims, while it had prior knowledge about Sarawak Report's hacked gmails.

A local crime reporter attempted to pass around a story to various top London newspapers, based on these false hacked gmails and also hacked skype messages.

The UK news outlets were directed to read the Malay Messenger and given false information that Sarawak Report had paid discredited private investigators in the United States to hack the bank accounts of the Mahmud family.

Sarawak Report now has a copy of the document sent to these newspapers.

Who could possibly have approached in that crime reporter and hired those operatives who stole and hacked the phone in the first place?

Even though the reporter concerned was working to defame Taib’s critics, he gave an accurate assessment of the Malaysian state of Sarawak, calling it “naturally, very corrupt”. No UK newspaper took up the story.

So, what will come next as Taib seeks ‘envoys’ to secure his reputation as Governor?

Clearly money can buy PR people, reputation managers and bloggers. It can buy people who jam and hack and burgle and steal. Money can even buy someone who could push an inconvenient person under a train perhaps or arrange a ‘suicide’?

But, the only way money can buy a back a good reputation is if you give it all away.

  2. He may have escaped man’s laws because humans are generally weak BUT he cannot escape from God. Depending on God to what man cannot do is a sign of weakness of man BUT what can we do? It’s a fact that 99.9% of men are weak in some ways.

    • Man is not weak by nature and that why we are evolved to a higher level compare to other animals specie. It is the religion that make us weak condemning us to mere down fallen man. This universe is not designed to be a perfect place. Humans being had adapted and made civilizations that we are now inheriting. Heaven and Sin were coined by Romans in order they can pacify and subjugate the masses under their control. Wrong doings by mortals caused destruction and suffering to the people, environments and society or to the worlds. If we have genuine form of governance these wrongdoers would have been brought to justice. Justice and injustice are the game people played. Wake up do your part to actively spread the words of to all brethren of the injustice befallen on us.

      • Man is weak because of worldly temptations. Man is easily tempted by greed and lusts. Man is easily bribed especially the poor, easily enticed. Man is easily tempted and seduced. I believe you are too, loyarburok. I believe you are a weakling pretending to be strong. Money can buy you, not a few hundred, thousand, how about in the millions? Put a sexy beautiful and naked girl in front of you, don’t tell me you won’t be seduced or fall into temptation. Don’t talk shit! We all need God to give us strength to overcome all these. That’s why you people who have no God keep voting for the devil, weaklings.

        • 70 – 80% of Dayak are Christian. Where do we put our Dayak faces when our Christian brethren voted for the devil. Most mainstream churches are manned by Dayak clergies and we often see them walked with the ruling politicians. How do you explained that? You need God to give you strength because you have no strength and mind of your own. If you think God can provide you solution for all the world trouble and injustice you are living in a world of hallucination. Old testaments was concocted by ancient Canaanite to give them a new identity. Myths, poets, little historical events, morality were infused to support their existence. New testaments was concocted by the Roman aristocrats with Jewish scholars for purpose of pacifying Jewish and people under their rules. These are only traditions which we called Christianity. Religions has been the causes of most wars in ancients time and even today. Is it not the religiosity conflicts that we trying hard to diffuse? The Allah conflict case to be brought on trial. Now God is now trial. If you use your bible to reflect your reality to this natural world it a a hard luck for you in the day of enlightenment of knowledge and science. What they say is true- if you talk to God you are praying,if God speak to you, you are deluded. I use critical thinking and reasoning if I see sexy girl/beautiful girl and money issue too. I don’t believe but I use the chemistry in my brains to be rational.

          • Christians in name only, what’s the point? We need true Christians, sincere Christians who really seek God’s wisdom and strength. These so called Dayak Christians are only Christians in name. They are not true or sincere Christians. True Christians can discern right from wrong. They can overcome the temptations which nominal or ordinary people can’t. Religion is man made and can be abused or manipulated to suit one’s whims and fancies, distorted to satisfy the lusts or fulfill their political agendas. But one’s personal relationship with God cannot be abused because God is in control and guide those abide in Him. God is never on trial. It’s those extremists, with their holier than thou attitude putting His name on trial. All these extremisms and fanatisms are evil man made idealogies, idiotic and stupid shallowness. How can the Almighty God, the impeccable All powerful and perfect one be on trial? This is making a mockery of our Judiciary and a laughing stock to the world. All the turmoil and chaos in the world are caused by these wicked men. Good, strong men are a rare species. They are overwhelmed by the wicked 99.9%. That’s the reason they need the strength and wisdom to overcome and solve the many problems of the world. Humanly speaking, it’s a mammoth task because precious, righteous men are rare, like precious gems.

            Comment by Sharpshooter — March 2, 2014 @ 11:27 PM

          • Human being is driven by ego and preservation of individual/specie, This is not weakness. It is in a human trait.Do not divert any of our shortfalls or mistakes to the inherited sin. There is no yardstick to measure a true believer. You are only deluding yourself if you do. Such assumption is only in your neurons. If you want to be a strong Christian you have to treat yourself as emerging Christian. Christian is not supposed to be fallen or born again. Born again meant you are a forever a child. Only children need protection but as emerging adult Christian you will have to free yourself from ignorance and accept responsibilities. Religion is always in the business of controlling. Heaven and hell have strong impact on people consciousness especially the intellectual weak. I am not here to criticize Christian but I wish Christian would up wake to confront the reality. Bible should not be taken literary but metaphorically. Jewish text is a good example and you will see how advanced they are technologically spirited and physically endowed to face the reality. They never turn the other cheeks after the holocaust.

            Comment by loyarburok — March 3, 2014 @ 2:58 PM

          • Whether inherited or otherwise, sins are sins! Sins are a weakness of man, due to failure to withstand or overcome temptations. When we refer to strength, we don’t usually refer to physical prowess but rather, the spiritual aspect. Making excuses are also a sign of weakness when we can’t make a favorable answer or can’t win an argument, we tend to divert or make excuses. No harm for you to criticize Christians, if you are better than them or have good reasons to. Nobody can stop you and me from doing so, especially those so called or hypocrites. Humans are weak creatures, by their own strength, that include you and me. Speaking of intellectual people with good reasoning power and logic, if they only have the knowledge or intelligence but lack integrity, principle and wisdom, all are in vain. Are you as capable as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Thomas Edison, John Newton and Albert Einstein? These are staunch Christians and some of them didn’t even enter varsity. As for born again Christians, I didn’t mention and have no need to mention them. When you are in a life and death situation, in grave danger or tragedy struck and you are going to lose your life, all your wealth or your family members, only then you will know your true worth. Talking and boasting about how strong you are is futile, when you haven’t come across a devastating event. Don’t argue for the sake of arguing. You may want to continue your argument but I find no benefit to carry on. So, here I rest my point.

            Comment by Sharpshooter — March 3, 2014 @ 8:24 PM

          • I beg to disagree with you that religions has been the causes of most wars. Could you substantiate your argument? Arab Spring are between Moslems not Christian vs Islam. Iran and Iraq war were between Moslems. Iraq invaded Kuwait, a brother moslem nation. North and South Korea war was not aggravated by religion. Now Russia is invading Ukraine without any religious issue. The cold WAR between USA and Russia was never a religious agenda. Middle East War – it is not between Islam and Christianity it is just a territorial dispute. Palestinians are not 100% Moslems as many are Christians. Could you tell which war is specifically about religion?

          • One day on your death bed, you will not call upon your knowledge and science, not your critical thinking and reasoning nor your brain chemistry for solace. It would be a higher being you will sought!!

            Good luck to you!

    March 2, 2014, Sunday

A Canadian couple on a week-long visit here yesterday expressed their bitter disappointment with the management of a resort in Santubong following the theft of cash from their hotel room.

The couple, David Bairnes and Annie Lok, told thesundaypost the incident occurred this past Monday, a day after they arrived in the city and checked into the five-star beach resort.

“We had gone to the pool around 5.15pm that day and returned to our room at approximately 6.30pm where we discovered RM850 in cash missing from our wallets,” said Annie when met at the district police headquarters at Simpang Tiga

She said whoever entered their room obviously had a master keycard to do so, as there was no sign of the door being tampered with, and had only taken a small portion of the total amount of cash in their wallets.

“Perhaps the culprit(s) had hoped that we would not notice the missing amount, but we did notice because we withdrew the money from an automated teller machine in the city earlier the same day and knew exactly how much was in our wallets.”

    • It happened to most hotels in Malaysia. I have several of that experiences too. They even had the gut to relax on the beds and shits in the toilets. It is one of those Malaysian standard having lost their sense of right and wrong similar to those placards holders protesting for nonsensical issue.
