Sarawak to amend NCR land code

Adenan SatemFMT

The amendment will allow NCR land anywhere in the state to be bought or sold to any native group.

Sarawak government intends to  amend the State land code to allow sale and purchase of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land among the natives regardless of where these lands are located.

Chief Minister Adenan Satem said the Land Code Amendment  Bill will be tabled for approval in the State Assembly sitting in  November this year.

“The amendment to the land code would enable the natives to buy  any NCR land in any place in the state because if we limit the sale and  purchase of NCR land only to members of natives in particular place or longhouse, the value of the land is almost valueless,” the chief  minister told a press conference at his office here today.

At present NCR land owners are prohibited under the state land  code to sell their land to native buyers from different longhouses or  areas.

“This was applicable 200 or 300 years ago because the idea at  that time was to confine the land to the community and in those days of  course, land was only for farming but nowadays land is also for  commercial and industrial activities.

“So the law must adapt to the changes. Come  November we will be introducing the amendment to the land code so that  any native can buy NCR land and also sell them to any other members  either to the Malay, Iban, Bidayuh or the Orang Ulu,” he added.

He said the amendment to the land code had nothing to do with the non-natives because the transactions are only allowed between native to native.

  1. In the past BN YBs had to use proxy of a certain community and in a partocular area to purchase native land. Now when the proposed admendment is passed these greedy BN YBs will be able to own more native land without limitations and restrictions.

  2. And we want him to recognise our rights to our Pemakai Menua and Pulau Galau which he is very much against. As for the amendment, it will accelerate the sale of NCR Lands to “BUMIPUTRA” as the case now. More NCR Lands are in the hands of non Natives using greedy natives as the front to buy such lands.

They know that natives are winning in the courts on NCR Land Claims and they want to be one step ahead so need for them to amend the law. Shouldn’t they consult the NCR land owners and the rakyat first before they decide on this amendment?

lets wait and see if the Dayaks YBs have the balls to object before we Dayaks becomes Landless.

  3. The Dayaks should be weary of this. Once it become law, Dayak will lose their traditional native land. No doubt the value of native land will increase. By the same token, Dayak will not be able to afford to buy native land as they become out of reach. Eventually, all the native land will be owned by Bumiputras who have money. Think carefully before supporting the move,.

    • Yup. Your prediction of how this will turn out in practice is prescient. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Adenan Satem is sugar-coating this evil law in the good intention of increasing NCR land value. To dirt-poor Dayaks, land means life and life is priceless. King Taib, puppet CM Satem and the traitorous bastards in PBB are plotting to remove a legal hurdle so that the new law will provide them with the legal fig leave to freely use their filthy riches to buy and grab NCR land cheap from dumb, ignorant longhouse folks.

      • They might as well call the new law the NCR Land Grab Code.
