BN cannot be trusted with more regulatory powers on religion

The Federal Constitution guarantees freedom of religion and let’s keep it that way.

No one should be allowed to regulate any religion. Period.

Experience and records show that Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and other Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders cannot be trusted with any more regulatory powers of any kind.

Not even MCA which cannot even lift a finger to get the government to act against the seditious spewing religious fanatics who are unfortunately either Umno leaders or supporters.

We are talking about the likes of Perkasa, Isma, Pekida, and the list goes on. Even blatant acts against national unity, like using the violence and bloodshed of May 13 to threaten Malaysians, have been condoned.

Can Malaysians really continue to trust the Umno-led BN government with more regulatory powers to administer justly?

The ongoing dispute over the use of the word “Allah” by non-Muslims and the illegal seizure of bibles are two examples why the BN government cannot be trusted with more regulatory powers.

It was reported that the government is looking at laws to regulate non-Muslims’ places of worship in the Federal Territories.

Tengku Adnan held a meeting with several MPs from both BN and Pakatan Rakyat in Parliament on April 23 to discuss the proposal.

MCA MP Khoo Soo Sean said the proposal brought forward by Tengku Adnan was to help non-Muslims to preserve their places of worship.

“Tengku Adnan is quite forward thinking. It is not only to sort out problems involving places of worship squatting on government land but also those established in shop houses,” he said.

Khoo said that according to local government by-laws, people are not allowed to convert shop lots into places of worship and thus the minister was trying to find an amicable solution to the issue.

“Among the ideas proposed in the meeting is to legalise places of worship established in shop lots if there are no objections from the residents at the area,” said the MCA leader.

He added that the meeting was also attended by representatives from various religions.

However, Khoo clarified that the proposal was still at a preliminary stage and nothing has been decided.

It will do well for MCA and Khoo to first prove themselves capable of ensuring just governance by getting Umno leaders and their coalition government to start acting against racial and religious bigots.

Such bigots are getting away with murder, so to speak, and are enemies of the state. They are national unity “terrorists” rubbishing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia.

When Khoo and MCA cannot even get the Umno-led BN government to act against such anti-nationals, can Malaysians really trust MCA and BN with more regulatory powers?

History has proven that MCA and its leaders are willing to sell their soul to Umno just to ensure that the “crumbs” of the largesse continue to fall on their feet.

Both Tengku Adnan and Khoo claim that the initiative was to sort out problems involving places of worship squatting on government land and shop houses.

The only reason why many places of worship are located in shop houses is the BN government’s refusal to grant approvals for the construction of houses of worship.

So, it is not about regulatory needs. It is about the sincerity of the ruling government to govern justly by adhering to the Federal Constitution’s guarantee of freedom of religion.

  2. Obama while in Malaysia called for moderation, guess he does not know know that even nursing infants can be separated form mum when father converts and dad can convert children without mum’s knowledge and consent. Religious authorities can also turn up at funerals and say “sorry to say, at one point the deceased converted covertly and now we are taking away the body.” Guess thats called moderation

  3. Yet again, Ng Kee Seng shows himself to be a dumb fool.

“No one should be allowed to regulate any religion. Period.”?! So beardies are free to keep slaves, free to smash the idols of other religions, free to stone adulterers to death, free to put apostates to death? And the Jesus and Big Mo cults are free to poach members from each other? And religions that call for human sacrifice are free to do so?

  4. Religious crisis or conflict engulfing this nation is in essence signal an era where the intellect of certain group of people are no longer evolving. Their intellect has reached a stagnation limit imposed by their religious beliefs. Their intellect has been in bondage. They live in their lives at the mental level of the moment. They have not realized that the cherished treasure in life or this nation need is PEACE. They have misplaced their belief into a wrong footing which resulted in the various communities into conflicting mode. If only we realized that the causes for the sorrows of the world or religious arguments of this nation are the imperfection or the disturbances of our own minds.

    • We have freedom to practice our own non-Muslim religion but only with the constant and incessant barrage of attacks and ridicule from certain Umno sub-contractor bigots like Perkosa, former Court of Appeal Judge, Pukima, and whatever else. We can pray but our statues like in Batu Caves and Penang Kek Lok Si are unIslamic and should be inconspicuous, patung-patung tidak selamatkan orang Hindu daripada banjir, Valentine’s day itu haram, Yoga ada unsur-unsur Hindu, cannot wish Happy Deepavali cannot say RIP to dead friend, Deeparay slaughtering of cows, and many many more. Yes we can practice our religion but not without constant attacks and ridicule. Yes, the UMNO regime is fair to non-muslims and non-malays just like apartheid was fair to the black South Africans, and like the Nazis were fair to the Jews.

  5. BN or Bankrupt Nation is bankrupt of ideas to revive the economy and welfare of the nation other than divide and rule using race and religion. That’s their strategy to stay in power. Only numbskull idiots swallow everything, the bait,
    hook, line and sinker.

    • Even before hudud is implemented, Malaysians can see how grossly crooked and unfair Najib’s 1Malaysia islam and its fanatical followers can be when dealing with non-muslim mothers. The latest case of Deepa’s kidnapped son by the lorry driver convert is only one case in point. What that latest outrage has revealed is that there is no such thing as moderate islam, no sensible voices among muslims both in the ruling regime and in the ranks of “keadilan” seeking opposition members. The secular foundations of the nation are being steadily subverted by rabid fanatics while Najib continues to fake his moderate credentials.
