‘All Sarawak parties must make stand on hudud’

Sarawak DAP today cautioned non-Muslims in Malaysia, especially those in Sarawak, about a paper presented by the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) that says hudud can be implemented in the country without the Federal Constitution being amended.

Once hudud is adopted by the government, the Jakim paper says, it would apply to all Malaysians irrespective of their race or religious belief, it said.

Jakim comes under the Prime Minister’s Department.

“Hudud is not suitable for Sarawak,” Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen said.

“Sarawak is worried about the Jakim paper, which was discussed by PAS Kelantan with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom last week to see whether the proposals in the paper can be implemented in Kelantan,” Chong said.

This issue was discussed by Sarawak DAP alst Sunday, at which it also decided to withdraw from Sarawak Pakatan Rakyat if PAS refused to revert to the common polices and principles agreed to in the Pakatan manifesto issued before the 13th general election.

“I specifically and categorically deny what is said by Baru Bian (Sarawak PKR chief) and Adam Ahid (Sarawak PAS commissioner) on the allegation that the issue was never discussed,” Chong said.

He was referring to the statements made by Baru and Adam, who expressed surprise and shock over DAP’s threat to withdraw from Pakatan.

They also accused Chong of not consulting them on the hudud issue.

Hitting back at them, Chong said: “During the May meeting of Sarawak Pakatan, I brought up the issue that PAS makes a stand that hudud is not suitable for implementation in Sarawak.

‘PAS rejected my call, Baru kept silent’

“It was firmly rejected by PAS. Baru, who was present, supported my request, but he was silent in the meeting.

“There is no point for him (Baru) to make a statement outside, but keep silent on the issue when it came to the crunch of the matter during Sarawak Pakatan meeting.

“I must admit that I was displeased with the stand taken by PKR and PAS. It is only right for PAS to make such a stand as far as the implementation of hudud in Sarawak is concerned,” said Chong, who is the MP for Bandar Kuching and the assemblyperson for Kota Sentosa.

He said: “What is more worrying is that PAS last Thursday engaged with federal government officers led by Jamil to discuss the implementation of hudud, based on the Jakim paper.

“The Jakim paper has the apparent endorsement of Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin (left),” he said.

Chong then went on to warn: “That discussion on the implementation of hudud without amending the Federal Constitution is the first step towards the Islamisation of Sarawak and the country.

“We have to deal with it and make our stand clear at this point of time. It should not be carried on as if nothing is happening.”

The ball is now in the court of PKR and PAS, he added, pointing out that PAS should make a stand on whether it wanted to revert to the common polices and principles spelt out in the coalition’s GE13 manifesto and stick with the spirit and principle of the Malaysia Agreement.

As far as PKR is concerned, it too should make its unequivocal stand on the issue.

On the statements by Gerakan and MCA that DAP’s threat to withdraw from Sarawak Pakatan is a ‘hoax’ and ‘an empty threat’, Chong said the Gerakan and MCA leaders  should go fly kites.

“Politically, they are bankrupt, and if they dare, they should stand up to Muhyiddin and Jakim. It is their duty to protect the interests of non-Muslims.

“They are in no position to tell Sarawakians what to do. They should leave Sarawak for Sarawakians,” he added.

  1. Hello Mr. HK Wong…HUDUD is not only about chopping hands and punishing adulterers. Please do research before you simplify the islamic laws, would you? The largest muslim populace in the world, Indonesia doesn’t implement this ancient law which was applicable during that time in history. FYI, Hudud is now being abused to sustain the power-crazy of our corrupted leaders and nothing else.

  2. Hudud is good!

What’s wrong with it? What’s wrong if the thief’s hand is chopped off or an adulterer is stoned to dead? Is it any different from a dadah pusher to be hanged?

When Sarawak was a British colony, we used British law, even though our criminal law was taken from Indian Penal Code. Now that we are in Malaysia, we adopted Malaysian law. What’s wrong with that?

As long as we are a part of Malaysia, and Malaysia wants hudud to be its law, we Sarawakians have to accept it. Unless, of course, Sarawak…

To me, Chong as a lawyer, must know this fact clearer than any one. He only made the statement in preparation ahead for the coming of the state election. DAP will never pull out of Pakatan. There are some Malays who cannot be trusted, so are some Chinese. Don’t believe him!

    • Sorry, HK Wong, we cannot and must not have hudud. Otherwise, we will be the first in the world to have a handless Governor!!! It will not be nice and dignified to look at – a handless TYT. You will even be difficult to receive your “Datuk”!!!

    • HK Wong, lets chop your hands as a trial run to the implimenation of HUDUD in Sarawak.I’m sure you have don’t some wrong in the past so let set an example to the rest of the would be wrong doers by sacrificing your hands as deterent. If you can live well without hands then by all means impliment that primitive law. Or maybe you can sacrifce the hands of your kids just to prove to us dissenters that you are really and truly is supportive of this again primitive and regressive law!

Or perhaps you can go and live with the talibans in the remote areas of Pakistan and Afghansitan and if you survived that then you come back to preach about that law you are clearly in favour off now!

  3. There goes licensed bigot agency in Dumno regime. It’s high time for Sarawak to follow the footstep of Singapore, even though it is late. No point sticking together with Malaya for it has all along been betraying MA1963 and 18/20 points. Those malayan bigots are no different than Talibans. Look at Syria, Iraq, Egypt, etc., and muslims are still killing each other under the pretext of defending Islam. What a joke!!!

  5. DAP needs to do their homework. The first step towards the Islamization of Sarawak was taken by the treasonous PBB a long time ago and it has been steadily ramping up the Islamization ever since. All the other BN Sarawak parties went along with it without a squeak of protest and by so doing are equally guilty of treason. What are all the hot shot lawyers in DAP doing? Go check what laws PBB have killed, doctored or added over the years to make Islam supreme. Why do we have all these Sarawak taxpayer-funded official and quasi-official Islamic agencies, charities and organizations when other religions don’t ? Why is the Sarawak government backing the Tanjung Manis halal hub project? Where is the Hindu vegetarian hub project? Or the Dayak animist barbequed wild boar project? Why do we see hideous and ridiculous rag heads and walking trash bags everywhere we turn nowadays? Why are our sight and sound being dominated and assaulted by Islam 24/7 nowadays? You think all these happened by accident? The Islamic noose around our necks is slowly being tightened.

  6. We all need to support Chong on this. We already know how sneaky Umno is. Their partners-in-crime MCA and Gerakan will not do or say anything as long as they are given a few free ministerial positions. Anything that Umno does is full of ulterior motives so trust them at our own risk. To them, political expediency takes precedence over everything else. They need to stay in power to continue plundering the nation.
