After having to undergo urine tests earlier today, student activists who planned to hold a rally at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) continue to be hounded by authorities.

The eight students were not only barred by campus officials from speaking, they were kicked out and arrested.

At the time of writing, Universiti Malaya Student Union (PMUM) president Fahmi Zainol said that the activists are now being brought to the Karamunsing police station in a police van.

Besides Fahmi (left), the students arrested include one from Universiti Teknologi Mara (Uitm), three from UMS (Kota Kinabalu campus) and three from UMS (Labuan campus).

Confirming the arrest when contacted, Fahmi said that police said they will only inform them why they are arrested at the police station.

He added that he and his friends were yelled at and kicked off campus by officials at about 8pm.

They were supposed to speak at a rally for student autonomy, as part of their nationwide roadshow.

He added that anti-riot squad police were also placed at the university gates.

UMS earlier issued a notice that there will be an electricity blackout due to “maintenance” work.

The same happened at Universiti Malaya when PMUM organised a talk by PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim on campus on Oct 27.

Universiti Islam Antarabangsa (UIA) also turned the campus lights off and locked the gate to stop a student rally at the campus in Gombak, Selangor last Friday.

UIA also barred law professor Abdul Aziz Bari, a former UIA lecturer from speaking.

Abdul Aziz, UM law lectuer Aziz Bari and student leaders spoke at the UIA campus gates instead.
