Police chief clears Mahathir of sedition

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 8:00 AM

Dr Mahathir Mohamad did not breach the Sedition Act with his acerbic salvo against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on issues like the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

This is the stand of Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar who has been criticised over the police’s ongoing sedition dragnet against opposition politicians and activists.

“Prior to this, many people have discussed about (the same issues), and it is not just only Mahathir who talked about them.

“For me, it is not (seditious),” he told reporters after a police function at the KLIA (left).

Khalid also confirmed the police have not received any reports against Mahathir regarding his blog posting.

“For those reports that are on the way, I do not know,” he quipped.

In a strongly-worded blog post yesterday, Mahathir unleashed his most vitriolic attack on Najib, raising issues such as the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) controversy and the murderof Altantuya Shariibuu among others.

Zunar ‘asked for it’

The former prime minister also said Umno and BN would lose in the next general election unless Najib stepped down.

On political cartoonist Zunar (in blue, pix below) being slammed with nine sedition charges relating to tweets he allegedly made during Anwar Ibrahim’s Sodomy II trial, the IGP said said Zunar “asked for it”.

“He asked for it. You ask for it, you got it. So watch out.

“We do not simply frame charges against anybody at our will,” claiming Zunar misused the Internet.

Khalid said the first mission he set for himself after assuming office was to ensure national security and order.

“I am walking the talk,” he said.

  2. Why the fuking double standards applied by the IGP. Why dare not charge Dr Mahathir for sedition or remarks he made on our incompetent, clueless, useless and hopeless PM?
