Sarawak Reform Party president Lina Soo said Sarawak should have sovereignty over the natural resources discovered in its territorial waters. — Picture by Choo Choy MayChief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem should form a Sarawak-owned oil firm to replace Petronas in the exploration of oil and gas resources in the state’s waters, said the Sarawak Reform Party (REFORM).

“We want the chief minister to revive Sarawak Oilfields Limited of bygone days and to re-constitute Sarawak Oilfields Berhad to be owned by the Sarawak government, “ the party’s president Lina Soo said today.

She said Sarawak should have sovereignty over the natural resources discovered in its territorial waters, adding that the state must benefit fully from oil and gas extracted from it.

Soo said REFORM supports the moratorium on work permits for non-resident Petronas personnel as announced by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah recently.

She said the move was in line with the Malaysia Agreement signed by Sarawak, Malaya, Sabah and Singapore in 1963.

Soo noted a recent revelation by Suarah Petroleum Group (SPG) president Hamin Yusuf that the majority of senior positions were filled by non-Sarawakians and the influx of west Malaysians filling the lower level jobs exacerbated the situation in Petronas’s operations in Sarawak.

“I do feel strongly  that this situation is no longer accepted by all Sarawakians,” she said, adding that Adenan and his Cabinet must not be seen by Sarawakians as not standing up to fight harder for State’s rights.

  1. Lina Soo. Being a parrot will not get you and your party anywhere. Get yourself elected FIRST.
