Action against company who cut road in forest reserve

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 9:01 PM

wan-junaidi-forestThe Pahang Forestry Department has issued a summons to a company that encroached into the Terenggun Forest Reserve near Kuala Lipis, Pahang, last year.

The machinery used in the encroachment have also been impounded, said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

“The encroachment involves two parcels in the Terenggun Forest Reserve. The company was granted a permit to conduct a study on minerals from Aug 1 to Oct 31 last year,” he said in a statement here today.

The encroachment at the forest reserve was reported in the media recently.

Wan Junaidi said investigations carried out by the department revealed that the company had built a three-kilometre road in November last year and cut down four trees without permission.

“This shows that the company did not abide by existing laws on forest intrusion,” he said.

He also said the department would continue to monitor the area thoroughly.

“This is a warning, if any individual or company intrudes into any forest, stern action will be taken against them under the National Forestry Act 1984,” he added.
