Bersih 2.0 Chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah has expressed the hope that all cases against individuals who have Bersih 4 T-shirts and other materials would be dropped.
“People were arrested because they were wearing Bersih 4 shirts,” she said after winning Bersih 2.0’s appeal at the Court of Appeal over the Home Minister’s ban on its T-shirts and other material. “The cases should be dropped given Monday’s ruling.”
Earlier, the Court of Appeal allowed Bersih 2.0 to quash the Home Minister’s decision to ban Bersih 4 materials.
Chin recalled the NGO waited for a year to get the decision.
“Today marks the first anniversary of the Bersih 4.0 rally and we will carry on,” she said. “The Bersih 4 T-shirts are a symbol of democracy.”
“The people have to fight for the right to assemble.”
Lawyer for Bersih 2.0, New Sin Yew, added that whoever has a Bersih 4 T-shirt should not be afraid.
“The order was now invalid,” said New. “The police cannot use the Minister’s order to arrest anyone.”
