PUTRAJAYA: Former Batu Kawan Umno division vice-chairman Khairuddin Abu Hassan has told Attorney-General Mohamed Apandi Ali that he must resign within 24 hours for dancing publicly with other ministers recently.
Speaking to reporters in front of the Attorney-General’s Chambers today, Khairuddin said Apandi had crossed a professional and ethical line by publicly dancing with Cabinet ministers during the recent National Day celebration.
“In my opinion, the AG’s action is not right. He, as the AG, should not have displayed his close ties to politicians, ministers or the public.
“Ethically, what he did was not right as it has destroyed the public’s confidence and faith in his ability to uphold the integrity of his position.
“Even if he makes a correct decision (in a case involving a Cabinet member), the rakyat will say he is showing favouritism or is being biased,” said Khairuddin.
He was here to send a memorandum to Apandi, requesting the latter’s immediate resignation.
The memorandum was signed by himself, in his capacity as a “responsible Malaysian”, and a member of Umno rebel group Gabungan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia.
In the memorandum, Apandi was given 24 hours to respond, preferably with a resignation letter.
“Apandi’s behaviour during the Merdeka celebration was very stupid and idiotic.
“He, especially at this particular time, is not in a position where he can be trusted to decide on any investigation papers opened against 1MDB, Cabinet members, or the government,” said Khairuddin.
He added that necessary action would be taken if Apandi did not respond to the memorandum within the stipulated 24 hours.
When asked to elaborate, Khairuddin said he would reveal his next course of action within the next few days.
In the video, a man resembling Apandi was seen dancing with several ministers, including Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Salleh Said Keruak, Azalina Othman Said and Nancy Shukri.
The video appears to be have been recorded during the recent Merdeka Day parade in Kuala Lumpur.
