mahathir anwarDr Mahathir Mohamad’s surprise visit to a High Court hearing today where he shook hands with his arch rival, Anwar Ibrahim has come under fire from critics who say it smacks of hypocrisy.

They also attacked Mahathir for his lack of principles as it was during his premiership that Anwar was unceremoniously sacked as his deputy in 1998 over allegations of sexual misconduct.

The two have remained bitter political rivals for 18 years until today that is, when Mahathir offered his hand to Anwar in a show of solidarity against the ruling Barisan Nasional and Prime Minister Najib Razak, who Mahathir wants to see unseated.

Slamming Mahathir’s actions, pro-Umno blog Another Brick in the Wall called it, “The height of hypocrisy …

“Desperation till honour and principles are sacrificed.”

The blog also questioned the real definition of “corruption” and asked: “Is the compromise of one’s whole life principles not the ultimate in corruption?”

“Which is the bigger sin: lying, hypocrisy, corruption and causing destruction OR still allegation of embezzlement?

Meanwhile, My Nation News, uploaded a video of Mahathir recorded in 2013 during the 13th General Election, in which the former premier is speaking to an audience, lambasting those sacked from Umno for defaming the party.

Mahathir also accused them of collaborating with the Opposition so they could become prime ministers themselves someday and slammed their struggle as “shallow.”

“Today Dr Mahathir is singing a different tune. It is easy for us to judge the kind of principles he stands by,” the post accompanying the video on My Nation News’s official Facebook page read.

The post was made in light of the fact that Mahathir himself is presently collaborating with Opposition forces in his effort to remove Najib from office.
