Former minister and Umno veteran Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim is suggesting that the government should have a tea party with the Opposition.
Whether it could or would happen, it does not matter, says former Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib.
The former Umno veteran says that if the United State’s President could take on an Opposition into his cabinet, the Malaysian government should try to practise the same.
“Not everyone in the Cabinet is bad, and not every in the Opposition is bad either. There should be room for cooperation between the government and the Opposition.
That is how it should be if we want to keep up with times,” he says.
Muhammad adds that if there are anti-Mahathir Oppositiin supporters who refuse to work with the majority notion, they are the ones who would probably lose out.
“They need to keep up. Mahathir himself is anti-Anwar, but if at 90 he is willing to look beyond that, I think most of us should try to do that too.
“And if the government should have a tea party? I think it should not be a problem is even they want to have lunch and dinner,” says Muhammad.
Meanwhile DAP Kepong MP Tan Seng Giaw, who has been in politics for decades, says political activities take various forms.
“Tun Mahathir and Anwar shook hands, this has made news.
“But politicians shake hands, usually such a practice does not have drastic effects,” he says.
