MCA leaders seem to be furious over Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz’s statement that the Chinese have rejected MCA, and thus he was closer to opposition DAP.
Nazri had started the bickering between MCA leaders and him, when he first said that even without MCA, Umno would have won the elections.
A row which has been going on for the past few days with bricks and bats being thrown to and fro in the media by Nazri and MCA, one wonders what the politicking is all about really, other than feeding each other’s egos.
Nazri had flicked them all off, saying he is okay with the top MCA leaders and not the smaller one, infuriating them further.
In the latest salvo by MCA, MCA Youth Secretary General Datuk Leong Kim Soon said Nazri should leave BN for damaging the coalition’s spirit.
“Nazri is the one who should leave BN! Not only does he not uphold the BN spirit, he has also destroyed the friendly relationship between the BN component parties.
“Nazri repeatedly stands side-by-side with the opposition, and also allows the opposition to apply some of the funding allocations, which has infuriated BN internally. But he continues to blurt out without thinking, which makes him a self-destructive Cabinet Minister in the coalition.
“His earlier remarks ‘I am close to DAP and not MCA as the former can garner the Chinese community’s support’ simply shows that he is not fit to represent BN in the general election.
“The basis for BN’s co-operation is built on coexistence and mutual sharing. Do not forget the General Elections in 1999, it was the votes cast by BN Chinese-based component parties which kept BN in power following the split in Umno triggered by the sacking of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
“Even then BN component parties did not ridicule Umno. If Nazri is unable understand the BN spirit, or think he can win because of his charisma alone, he may contest as an independent in the coming general election. He is welcomed to rejoin BN if he wins,” said Leong.
Leong joins a line of MCA leaders who have been taking on Nazri, for his remarks.
Earlier, MCA Central Committee member Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker had said that Nazri was both an an asset and a liability to BN.
“He is not perfect and is now over reacting. He can display his arrogance today because he is still a Minister as a result of the strong foundation of BN and all its component parties.
“Nazri had erroneously claimed that BN component parties namely MCA, MIC and Gerakan are unable to be dominant like UMNO as using parachute candidates, they were unable to select local candidates who could win at the general election.
“As the Captain of the ship, you do not disregard the efforts of the crew nor display your pompous self with no shame or humility. You don’t tell your crew that I am “bongkak,” terror and arrogant because I am the Captain.
“Fortunately Nazri will just be what he is, a good assistant to the Captain. A Captain will never have a “kacang lupakan kulit” attitude when the ship is sailing as a result of the efforts of all. He will remember the importance of teamwork and be mindful of the welfare of his crew,” said Ti.
