Show your cards, PKR challenges Dr Mahathir

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 9:01 PM

Darell-Leiking_mahathir_600PKR’s Darell Leiking has called on former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad to openly state if he believes Anwar Ibrahim is innocent and a victim of political persecution.

Speaking to FMT, Leiking said Mahathir should put all his cards on the table.

He was responding to Mahathir’s statement earlier yesterday that this was not the time to talk about Anwar’s release.

It was reported that Mahathir, who is chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), had said they could not promise that Anwar would be released for now. This could only be considered if PPBM managed to form the government, he had said.

Mahathir had also said if everyone wanted to free Anwar, then it could not be ignored and must be studied.

Leiking said if Mahathir could not make any promises because PPBM was not in power, then at the very least, Mahathir could openly state if he believed Anwar was innocent and a victim of political persecution.

“Personally, I strongly believe that Anwar was convicted under suspicious circumstances. I also strongly believe Anwar is innocent and is a victim of political persecution.

“If Mahathir believes that Anwar is innocent and a victim of political persecution, then why can’t he state if he wishes to free Anwar, alongside all other victims of political persecution?”

The New Straits Times recently reported that Muhyiddin Yassin had said he would work with the Opposition to secure Anwar’s release should PPBM and Pakatan Harapan take over Putrajaya.

Anwar, the de facto Opposition leader, is currently serving a five-year jail term for sodomy.

  1. Dr Mahathir has no influence anymore. If he is 90+ what can he expect to contribute to undo his mistakes. The best option is to repent and pray for those he harmed politically.

Pray mostly for God’s forgiveness for hoping to hve 72 ouris…
