Sarawak Wanita PKR has lodged a police report against Ali Tinju for making “threatening remarks” against Bersih 2.0 chief Maria Chin Abdullah last week.
In lodging the report, the Opposition component’s women’s wing viewed Ali’s comments as a threat against women.
“We have taken this initiative because we feel that the statement that he has made, reported by Free Malaysia Today, makes it a serious offence,” Sarawak Wanita PKR chief Nurhanim Hanna Mokhsen told reporters after lodging the police report in Kuching today.
Nurhanim said the women’s wing believed the remarks were a form of criminal intimidation and an offence under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
DAP’s Teratai state representative Tiew Way Keng and a student body called the Student Unity Front also lodged police reports against Ali for his comments, reportedly made last Wednesday.
In response to a possible Bersih 5 rally by the end of this year, Ali had allegedly said he would “ambush” Chin, even if it meant getting jailed for his actions.
“I will ambush her in the near future. Even if I have to spend 10 years in prison. I don’t mind,” he had reportedly said.
“She won’t feel peace and even with 10 or 20 bodyguards, we will whip them. She has to remember.
“I’m worried she may no longer walk on this earth.”
Nurhanim said Sarawak PKR felt compelled to lodge the report despite earlier reports lodged. This was to ensure the investigation “on his threats” was carried out by the police.
She added police had ample powers to initiate investigations and Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar must investigate the matter without “fear or favour.”
“If the said statements reported are true, then there can be no doubt that an offence has been committed. The matter is serious and certainly of public interest,” Nurhanim said.
“Ali Tinju is a former soldier and his act in threatening Chin and women is dangerous to society.
“His remarks are a disgrace and an embarrassment to the Malaysian Armed Forces.”
