Former Umno leader Khairuddin Abu Hassan is tight-lipped on claims that he is set to join either DAP or PKR in the near future.
Earlier today, FMT reported that a Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) party insider claimed Khairuddin, a staunch supporter of PPBM Chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad, was set to join either DAP or PKR.
This, the insider claimed, was because Khairuddin had been repelled by the leadership style of PPBM protem president Muhyiddin Yassin.
When contacted on the claims, Khairuddin, the former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chief, simply told FMT “no comment”. When pressed for an answer, he said, “anything is possible in politics and I will issue a statement in due time.”
FMT also asked Khairuddin on the insider’s claims that he was frustrated with Mahathir for showing Muhyiddin “too much face”, but Khairuddin also declined to comment on this.
“I will release a statement soon. Whatever I do is for the good of the country and Mahathir.”
Khairuddin, who has in the past been very vocal on the state of affairs in the country, has been rather quiet by his standards since PPBM was formed.
It has been rumoured that Khairuddin and PKR Deputy President Azmin Ali were the “middlemen” who had arranged for the recent meeting between Mahathir and his former protege-turned-nemesis, jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Khairuddin’s response comes in the wake of the insider’s claims, which raise many questions about PPBM.
Aside from claims that Khairuddin has been repelled by Muhyiddin’s leadership and that he would be joining either DAP or PKR, the insider also said that a rebellion was simmering in the party.
This was because Muhyiddin had purportedly sidelined Mahathir’s camp, and that Muhyiddin would soon be attacked by Mahathir’s supporters and some who supported the Citizens’ Declaration.
