Prominent lawyer Matthias Chang has slammed federal minister Salleh Said Keruak in a video, using a combination of Islamic phrases and curses.
In a video posted to his YouTube channel, Chang, who was the former political secretary to former Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, appeared to lash out at Salleh over the latter’s comments about the withdrawal of civil suits pertaining to 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) in the United States.
The US suit was filed on Aug 11 by Chang and Salor Assemblyman Husam Musa.
Speaking from his rostrum, emblazoned with the words “Prioritise Allah Not Najib, Prioritise Allah Not Umno”, Chang launched a tirade against the communications and multimedia minister.
He charged that Salleh had a responsibility as a Muslim to bring back funds and assets purchased with money allegedly stolen from 1MDB but instead had “no backbone” or “substance” to do it.
“Stop making noise, you are losing credibility.”
Chang went on to remind Salleh of his duties as a Muslim, a minister and a citizen.
“Truthfulness and trustworthiness are virtues of foremost importance in Islam.
“In the words of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), these are prerequisites of the faith. Without them, no one can be a true Muslim.
“Truthfulness and trustworthiness. Instead you lie, distort and misrepresent …,” he continued.
Chang went on to quote Abdullah Masud, a companion of the Prophet, on the importance of truthfulness and trustworthiness.
He also advised Salleh to repent, seek God’s forgiveness, be truthful and trustworthy, as well as a good Muslim for once besides accusing Salleh of not understanding the legal procedures in relation to the suit he and Husam withdrew.
Earlier this week, Salleh said the reality was that the suit filed in the United States was baseless from the start and a pure publicity stunt to manipulate public perceptions.
Chang, however, claimed they were adding new evidence to their case and would not drop their pursuit of the matter.
