Hadi: Only Islam can rule, others must be ‘pak turut’

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 9:01 PM

As various opposition parties begin to corral against BN, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said those who want to court them must be mindful that only “Islam” can rule the country.

“Islam has to be the leader and ruler, those who are not of Islam must be followers (pak turut).

“Let’s not place religion and politics in separate corners,” he was reported saying in Sinar Harian today.

“Don’t ask PAS to cooperate with you, when you will not make any change towards (prioritising) Islam, that is wrong.

“As long as the power of Islamic governance isn’t upheld, then those who rule would not care about sin and reward, would rob the people’s wealth and so on.

“Only Islam can correct people’s (behaviour). PAS can only cooperate with those who are willing to uphold Islam only,” he was reported saying at an event in Kemaman last Thursday night, at the launch of the Harapan Semua (Harap) gathering attended by roughly 1,500.

His speech comes amidst speculation that Prime Minister Najib Razak will call a general election early next year, and in the face of a highly controversial redelineation exercise said by critics to ensure a big win by BN at the polls.

DAP bashed again

Hadi zoomed in on DAP, which the Islamist party had broken ties with last year over the implementation of hudud, leading to the demise of Pakatan Rakyat.

“In this respect, DAP clearly opposes the fundamentals of Islam that we champion.

“And there are people over there who follow them,” he claimed.

“There are parties who remain silent on this, and who don’t seem to have any opinion on this.

“And this is what determines the attitude of Muslims, whether they run the red traffic light, or wait until the light turns green.”

Hadi was likely referring to Parti Amanah Negara, who are seen to be on good terms with DAP.

Amanah is spearheaded by PAS’ progressives who had quit after they were obliterated from the Islamist party’s top leadership in the muktamar last year, after being demonised as lackeys of DAP.

Hadi meanwhile warned PAS members to be wary about such other parties who seek their cooperation without giving the party’s Islamic ideals priority.

He said such people only want to use PAS as a ladder to be stepped on, and not rely on PAS as the stairway to change.

    • ‘Secular laws more Islamic’
      http://www.thesundaily.my/node/398526

KUALA LUMPUR: Secular laws are more Islamic than the hudud proposed by PAS, lawyer and activist Siti Kasim (pix) said.

Speaking her mind on how the proposed amendments to the syariah will have many implications on society, she cautioned the Muslim community against being misled in the name of religion.

“Islam does not say that you must be governed by Islamic law. Islamic law is about justice and compassion.

“Secular laws are Islamic as it is about justice and compassion; in fact more Islamic than the hudud suggested by ‘Islamofascists’,” she told theSun, referring to the religious bodies and leaders, including PAS.

Repeatedly saying that Malaysia does not need hudud, Siti said in civil law those above 50 will be spared the cane but in Islamic law whipping is regardless of age for offenders.

“People will say I don’t know the Islamic way of caning, but have you seen the videos?”

The 53-year-old human rights advocate, who recently caught the limelight for her controversial “middle-finger” episode after being heckled at a forum discussing the syariah, called for more open and professional discussions on the subject.

“I want Malays to wake up. Don’t say this is God’s law so we cannot go against it.

“Let’s pressure the mullahs and ulamas or ustaz – they are not the only ones who can speak about Islamic law. Open up discussions, debates and share views with those interested,” Siti said.

Challenging PAS to hold an open discussion on Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts Criminal Jurisdiction (Act 355), she said the Malays must realise how serious this amendment is.

“This is what PAS has been lying to us, they are not being Islamic at all, they are not being honest with Malays.

“They are not being truthful with their conduct,” she said.

Siti said it is the lack of knowledge, ignorance and fear that has made many Muslims in the country to conform to the implementation of “Islamic policies”.

“I know of my own friends, too, who fear expressing views on Islam as they would become murtad (apostacised), which of course is not the case. When you don’t understand, you may fear,” she said.

“Can you give me one country in the world that implements hudud and is successful in terms of economy, society, human rights welfare and so on?” she said.

She added that the provisions of hudud in Kelantan will discriminate against women while others will face many restrictions to their current lifestyle.

  6. look at what has happened to Brunei after implemented the hudud laws, affecting non Muslims too.

    Comment by munah — October 3, 2016 @ 9:00 AM | Reply

    • Despite powerful backlash from the international community, in particular the Western media, Brunei has been insistent in implementing the hudud. As if that is not enough, the hudud enforcement covers a very broad aspect and has made its way into the day-to-day lives of even the non-Muslims there.

In Brunei, the non-Muslims’ right to eat freely during the fasting month is no longer in place. Enforcement personnel have been dispatched to arrest locals and even tourists found eating in public during fasting hours.

Eating and smoking at all eateries, including restaurants, coffee shops and food stalls, are strictly prohibited and offenders can be fined a maximum of B$4,000 (RM12,175) or jailed up to a year, or both.

  8. He should have said lets not put religion, politics and corruption in separate corners.
He has no followers in Sarawak so he better keep away. His brand of either politics or religion is not welcome here.
