The police said today that a Bersih supporter who accused the Red Shirts of assault is not a policeman, but a worker at a government agency.
Sabak Bernam district police chief Supt Nor Azmi Haji Isa also said investigations will be launched against those who spread on social media a poster claiming that the Bersih supporter, Kusaini Kassim, is a policeman, as the police considered it an attempt to spoil the image of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
“He is a staff at a government agency working as a low-ranking general assistant, Grade N1, and is not a PDRM member as per what has been going viral,” Nor Azmi said in a statement that was posted on the Selangor police’s Facebook page.
The Facebook post was attached to a poster that said: “Kusaini Kassim anggota PDRM? Sertai Bersih & Gengster? [Translation: Kusaini Kassim is a member of PDRM? He joined Bersih and he’s a gangster?]”
According to Nor Azmi, the Selangor contingent police confirmed that Kusaini lodged a police report on October 8, alleging that he was kicked and beaten up by a few Red Shirt supporters while he was passing the traffic lights at Sepintas, Sabak Bernam, during his participation in the Bersih 5 convoy.
Selangor police said yesterday that Bersih 2.0 and Red Shirts leader Datuk Jamal Md Yunos will be questioned over the clash between the electoral reform group and the pro-government group at Sabak Bernam last week.
