Police ready to be tough with Reds, Yellows

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 9:01 PM

Rashid IbrahimPolice have issued a warning that tougher action will be taken to maintain public order and ensure there is no clash between supporters of the rival Yellow Shirts and Red Shirts political movements.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the police had taken a moderate approach so far but were willing to be more forceful.

Noor Rashid, who is in Bangkok to attend a Royal Thai Police event, said this following concerns about a possible clash between the Bersih supporters, who wear yellow t-shirts, and those of the pro-Umno Red Shirts movement.

Bersih activists have held a series of road convoys to publicise the need for reforms and for a street rally in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 19. They have faced challenges from the Red Shirts movement.

“So far we have been taking moderate action to curb such activities, we do not want to create an uncomfortable situation, but if this trend continues we will take a more forceful action,” he told Bernama here recently.

The Red Shirts, who are opposed to the Bersih 5 rally, have issued a warning that a counter gathering will be held, raising concerns about clashes between the two parties.

Recently, several incidents have occurred in which both sides have collided causing a commotion.

Police said they were not informed about the cause of the clashes between supporters of the two parties recently in Teluk Intan and Sabak Bernam.

“Investigations are ongoing and those who refuse to follow the rules and laws, will be subjected to appropriate action,” he said.

He called on any party that wanted to hold a rally or procession to adhere to the rules under the Peaceful Assembly Act.

However, so far, he said, the police have not received any application from either group to organise a rally or parade.

  4. You see how this Red Shirt gang are doing things. They totally have no ideals, nothing in their head . What they can do is just go about creating troubles for the Rakyat. Bersih, Petaling Street, Plaza, Malls ….creating commotions, just to show that they are the ‘ heros ‘ from UMNO. This time around Bersih has to be very cautious. They have to be wary of Trojan Horses being planted by this Red Shirt gang.

  5. The red shirts led by idiots and morons have every right to hold roadshow, forums and whatnot to tell the world that Umno Baru is the best party in the world and Najib is the best PM ever in the history of Malaysia. It is their rights so long as they do not go around threatening to harm Bersih participants who are for electoral reforms and good governance. The Police must not give excuses for not taking any actions against any groups regardless of the colour of their shirts or the organisation they represent if the group go around threatening to harm others who do not support their cause and movement. Malaysians can see for themselves whose cause are just and justified and good for the nation and know what kind of government we want. The Police must respect the democratic rights of all Malaysians to peaceful assembly and freedom of speech. Take action and arrest those who threaten to harm others.

  6. Stop talking rubbish and go after anyone who threaten to harm and cause bloodshed not those who have been walking peacefully. Go after Umno Baru trouble makers. Period.
