Red paint was thrown on the car of Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah’s son today, just days after death threats were made against her and her family purportedly by local Islamic State (IS) terrorists.
“Early this morning, a car belonging to the son of the Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah was splashed with red paint at her residence,” Bersih 2.0 secretariat member Mandeep Singh said in a statement.
Chin and her three sons are currently lodging a police report over the latest incident.
She confirmed the details of Mandeep’s statement with Malay Mail Online, but declined to comment further.
She said that a press conference will be held at 4pm at the entrance of the Bukit Aman police station.
Bersih 2.0 will hand over a memorandum to the police later regarding the repeated death threats and attacks against its leaders.
On Monday, Chin said she received a warning through a WhatsApp message from an unknown phone number that she and her three children would be beheaded if the Bersih 5 rally goes on as scheduled on November 19.
Similar warnings were made to Bersih 2.0 secretariat member Mandeep and Human Rights Society president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan on the same day.
