Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah is seeking round the clock police protection for herself and her family, after her son’s car was splashed with red paint.
The election reform activist said the act was a form of political intimidation and urged the police to crack down on its perpetrators.
“Such violence must stop and we demand swift action be taken against these criminals and gangsters.
“We also demand for immediate round the clock protection for my family and others who received death threats,” she told reporters after submitting a memorandum to the police at its federal headquarters in Bukit Aman here.
Just days after death threats were made against her and her family purportedly by local Islamic State (IS) terrorist, at about 3am today, Chin said red paint and what she believed was chicken blood were thrown at her son’s car at the family’s residence.
“These are all acts to stop Bersih 5 but we are not afraid and we will go on with the rally on Nov 19 as planned,” she said.
On Monday, Chin said she received a warning through a WhatsApp message from an unknown phone number that she and her three children would be beheaded if the Bersih 5 rally goes on as scheduled on November 19.
Similar warnings were made to Bersih 2.0 secretariat member Mandeep and Human Rights Society president Datuk Ambiga Sreenevasan on the same day.
