There was a brief commotion at Parliament, just before the Budget 2017 speech today, after several senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) were denied entry into the Dewan Rakyat.
“Are you serious. I am calling my KSU (chief secretary) now,” one indignant officer was overheard saying to the guard after she was denied entry.
“Talk to him. You will know who I am,” she said.
After a brief phone call, the officer was allowed in.
Several other officers from PMO also suffered the same ignominy when they were stopped at the entrance.
“I am from the Prime Minister’s Office. Why can’t I go in?” one of them asked the guard, who explained that only ministers and secretaries-general could enter.
“I don’t believe this. Our tags clearly show that we are from the Prime Minster’s office,” came the reply from the officer.
One officer was in disbelief, telling the guard that he was part of the budget team.
The group were subsequently allowed in after one of the officers was seen whispering to the guard.
“What a stressful day. Keep up the good work,” said one of them as the House waited for the budget speech to begin.
