The police tried to break down the front door of the Sisters in Islam’s (SIS) office today in what could possibly have been a raid, although no official reason has been given yet.
SIS board member Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir tweeted earlier that she was informed that the police were trying to break their way in.
“Have we turned into a police state, that they can turn up like this? Apparently shouting and screaming at the staff!” she tweeted.
“We are refusing to open the door until lawyers arrive. Cops are saying we are obstructing justice! JUSTICE???” Marina said in another tweet.
But Marina said she was later informed that the police’s heavy-handed action had nothing to do with SIS.
“Ok I am here. Lawyers are here. Apparently nothing to do with SIS. But no reason to intimidate us like that,” Marina said in her latest Twitter update.
The group will issue a statement on the incident later today.
