Malaysia was called into the Top 20 at the prestigious Miss Grand International 2016 held at Westgate International Theatre in Las Vegas on Tuesday. This was the first Top 20 placement for Malaysia at Miss Grand International.
Ranmeet Jassal, a 25-year-old medical doctor made Malaysia proud with her achievement. She was outstanding in the preliminary competitions which include the swimsuit and evening gown categories.
A closed door interview with the judges’ prelude to the preliminary was also part of the judging process for the 74 delegates competing for the prestigious crown which includes a cash prize of US$40,000.
Throughout the two weeks pageant, all delegates were treated to many activities including tourist attraction and charity events by Miss Grand International Organisation.
The winner was Ariska Putri Pertiwi from Indonesia and runners up were the Philippines and Thailand. Completing the top five were delegates from Puerto Rico and Miss USA. Besides the Top 20 placement, Ranmeet was also awarded Top 10 in the Best National Costume designed by Borneo Republic Malaysia.
The next international pageant will be held in Vietnam on Oct 25, 2017.
Miss Grand International (MGI) is one of the world’s leading international beauty pageant and is also one of the five Grand Slam Beauty Pageants along side with Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International and Miss Supranational.
Ranmeet graduated from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences in Bengaluru, India. After a year of houseman training in India, she is now in Malaysia to start her medical practice as a house surgeon with the government.
Her sister is the current Miss Malaysia Universe while her mother was Mrs Malaysia Classic.
“My mom was crowned Mrs Malaysia World 2015 in the classic category last year,” she said. “She’s above 50. And this year my sister Kiran Jassal, who is five years younger to me, won the Miss Universe Malaysia 2016 crown.”
