He is a primary school teacher and he is alleged to have molested nine students in Hulu Selangor and what does the ministry do? It transfers him to another school.
It is not only unbecoming of the ministry to do so, never mind that he has yet to be convicted, but the ministry now has put all students in the new school in danger of being molested.
The officials can argue the concept of innocent till proven guilty, but when it comes to cases like molest and rape of minors, one cannot but take all the steps to ensure the alleged paedophile does not have any contact with children until he is proven innocent.
The Star reported that the Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the teacher was moved out from the Tamil school concerned and is being “monitored” by the district and state education officers.
“The ministry is working closely with the police to resolve the case according to the law,” Mahdzir told Teo Ni Ching (DAP-Kulai) in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat.
“Mahdzir said a total of 15 reports of teachers molesting students were made between 2010 and October this year at district and state education offices, including the ministry.
“He said the teachers involved had been transferred to other schools and subjected to counselling and close monitoring.
“Disciplinary action against them is determine on the courts,” he said, adding that the victims were also given counselling, reported The Star.
What was Mahdzir thinking? Would he send his own children or grandchildren to a school where there is a teacher who is alleged to have molested not one, but nine children?
Does he not care, or does he not know what is molest?
Why could the teacher not been given unpaid leave or put behind a desk in any of the district offices until he is cleared of the charges?
Who is this teacher who has so much clout with the Ministry that he gets to keep a job even when he is alleged to have completely abused his position?
What are parents of the students at the school where he was transferred to, to do? Stop sending their children to school, or send and hope that the teacher does not touch them? Advise them to stand five feet away from the teacher?
And how exactly do ministry and district officers intend to monitor this teacher – is there a CCTV around his neck or is there electronic monitoring 24 hours of any kind?
Until that teacher is cleared of the molest charges, he should not be allowed to have any contact or be near any students.
