Najib said that Trump's appeal to Americans who want to see their government more focused on their interests and welfare, and less embroiled in foreign interventions that have proven to run counter to US interests — have resulted in his win. — Reuters picPrime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today congratulated Donald Trump for winning the US presidency, saying the latter’s victory serves as a reminder to all politicians to never take voters for granted.

In a statement, Najib pointed out how Trump was initially considered an outsider when his candidacy was first announced, but then he beat the establishment consensus by winning the Republican nomination, and now the US presidency.

“Mr Trump’s success shows that politicians should never take voters for granted. Opinion polls, and established political figures, all underestimated the strength of his support,” the prime minister said.

Najib said that Trump’s appeal to Americans who want to see their government more focused on their interests and welfare, and less embroiled in foreign interventions that have proven to run counter to US interests — have resulted in his win.

“In 2014 the US and Malaysia elevated our relationship to a comprehensive partnership, and we are firm allies in the worldwide fight against terrorism and extremism.

“We look forward to continuing this partnership under President-elect Trump. I congratulate him on this extraordinary victory, and look forward to meeting him again soon,” Najib added.

Trump won the US presidency today in a closely fought battle against US Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton in what many have called a shock victory.

  1. Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak urged Malaysians to emulate the “hunger for success” displayed by China’s citizens, following his recent state visit to the country.

Actually the Chinese in Malaysia has been working hard and toil for success for more than a 100 years here. No need to look that far. No need to travel so far to learn about the Chinese success. If you just open your eyes, you can find the exact lesson in your own backyard.

It is strange these Umno leaders never ask Malaysians to emulate the Chinese at home, who are also industrious and self-made people. You can see an ant so far away but not an elephant in the room.
