Khairy feared if the two groups clashed, untoward incidents might occur. — Picture by Yusof Mat IsaUmno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin hopes Bersih supporters will not clash with the Red Shirt group during a rally scheduled for Saturday.

Khairy feared if the two groups clashed, untoward incidents might occur.

“We hope there will be no chaos in the streets and we want to ensure peace will always be preserved in Kuala Lumpur.

“I hope there will be no clash between Bersih and the Red Shirt because both groups have stressed on demonstrating even though they have been barred from doing so, by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi,” he said.

The youth and sports minister was speaking to reporters after the Fit Mosque 2016 programme here today.

Khairy also hoped the rally would not materialise.

Meanwhile, Khairy described former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was seen wearing a ‘Free Anwar’ badge at Pakatan Harapan Convention yesterday, as weird.

“It’s weird. This shows the end justifies all means, including reuniting with one’s archenemy.

“(He is) willing to compromise his political stance which he held steadfastly for almost 20 years. All because of his political interests,” he said.

  1. It is now clear and obvious that Umno Baru brand of Islam is about violence, stoking hatred and feeding on corruption . The true Islam is a religion of peace, compassion and caring for the welfare of the people without abusing power and committing corruption. Shame on those hypocrite Umno Baru Muslims.

    • The bloodied nose of the obnoxious Jamal Md Yunus is the best ever present and appropriate payback from the immensely elated and grateful community whose rights to live in peace and dignity has been menacingly trampled upon by the much-detested red-shirts group under his atrocious leadership. Rather than being sanely humbled with his battered countenance, the defiant and disgracefully unperturbed Jamal still adorned his aggressiveness to showcase his hooliganism in the face of the assembled PDRM. Due credit should be accorded to the professionalism of our PDRM whose officers were quick to react to such a volatile situation and remained undeterred by the unruliness of the red shirts group and in fact stood their grounds to apprehend and curtail their unacceptable rowdyism. It is time that the fair-minded populace take a page from such an act of astute calm and endeavours from our esteemed PDRM and not be cowered to submission by the unacceptable antics of the cowardly red-shirts.
