PKR MP Zuraida Kamaruddin today demanded Putrajaya to answer as to how Sungai Besar Umno chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos received what she termed as a ‘fast-tracked’ approval to board a commercial helicopter and those who funded his “silly” trip.
She also demanded to know the application procedures and the details required in the application forms before a civilian is allowed to charter or board commercial helicopters.
“There must be an application, and in the application it must be stated the purpose of the trip, from where to where.
“So, a basic question like mine cannot be answered by the minister, so I’m very disappointed because I raised a question on how Jamal can get an approval in such a short time. Yesterday he announced he’s going to take a helicopter and today, he took the helicopter for a trip that has no purpose.
“How did he get approval to take this helicopter this afternoon to do something that is silly and non-beneficial?” the Ampang MP asked in a press conference.
She had initially interjected Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai’s ministerial winding up speech to pose the same question, only to be told there was no information on Jamal’s helicopter ride.
“So I asked the minister just now, to explain on what is the procedure, and what is the time frame and what’s are the question listed in the application form. And i want Jamal to explain. To travel in a helicopter is the lifestyle of the elites, so how did he get the fund to take a trip in a helicopter just to see someone’s home?
“Who approved his trip? Did he go through proper procedure, or there was some backyard dealing which allowed him to get approval within 24 hours?” Zuraida asked.
The Star Online yesterday reported that Jamal, who leads the Red Shirt movement, had invited journalists to go on helicopter ride over the home of a PKR Youth leader, claiming that the 28-year-old had accumulated a large amount of questionable wealth.
