The state government has decided not to proceed with tabling a motion to demand for the return of the state’s rights as spelled out in the Malaysia Agreement, Malaysia Act and Inter-Governmental Committee Report, Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem said today.
“In view of what Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had said in Sabah recently that the federal government was open for discussions on the Malaysia Agreement, we therefore have decided not to pass a resolution in the coming state assembly’s sitting demanding our rights back,” he told reporters after chairing PBB supreme council meeting.
Adenan said he had met with the prime minister on November 12 for further discussions on the devolution of power to the state government from the federal government.
“We trust the prime minister to do the right thing and we have every confidence that he will do the right thing,” Adenan, who is also PBB president, said.
He said the state government believes in consultation, not confrontation, to resolve any issues between the state and federal governments.
“As a result, we have achieved quite a number of things,” he added, citing the appointment of Sarawak State Secretary Tan Sri Morshidi Ghani to the board of Petronas as an example.
On November 1, Adenan had said that the state government would table a comprehensive motion, which would bring the state’s status to what it was in 1963, at the state assembly which sits from November 21 to 30.
He added the motion would cover, among others, the Territorial Sea Act, Continental Shelf Act, Article 1 (2) of the Federal Constitution and the Petroleum Development Act, which all had eroded Sarawak’s rights and taken over by Putrajaya.
He said Article 1(2) of the Federal Constitution was amended in 1976 under an emergency had changed status of Sarawak from one of equal partner to Malaya to one of the 13 states in the Federation of Malaysia.

Sarawakians were not convinced about Adenan Satem and Sarawak BN lawmakers loud noise for autonomous power including autonomy over education and the use of English as an official language alongside Bahasa Malaysia. Before and after the May State election , Sarawakians already sensed this was a wayang kulit. Najib can never be trusted and Adenan Satem is a loud noise and big mouth coward. It is time a no nonsense and true Dayak ” warrior” takes over as CM.

S4S and Peter John which had misled Sarawakians in its Sarawak for Sarawakians movement was dupped by PBB president and CM of Sarawak, Adenan Satem. History clearly revealed that none of the Sarawak BN lawmakers abstained from voting for or opposed the amendment sought by the Federal government in 1976 to downgrade the status of Sarawak. It was the Opposition leaders Lim Kit Siang and Lee Lam Tye from DAP then who opposed the amendment and voted against the amendment.
