MP for Seremban Anthony Loke is being held for sedition over a speech he allegedly made calling for the removal of Datuk Seri Najib Razak as prime minister.
Loke’s lawyer Ramkarpal Singh said his client was arrested after he went to the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman to have his statement recorded earlier today.
“It’s in relation to a speech he made at the Pakatan convention,” Ramkarpal who is also Bukit Gelugor MP told Malay Mail Online when contacted this evening.
The Pakatan Harapan comprising DAP, PKR and Parti Amanah Negara held their inaugural convention last Saturday, and welcomed the addition of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia to their Opposition pact.
He said Loke is currently being transported to Seremban for further questioning, adding that there was a possibility the Seremban MP could be held till Monday.
Loke’s arrest comes on the eve of the Bersih 5 rally in the city here.
The police have also picked up Bersih 2.0 chairman Maria Chin Abdullah and her fellow committee member Mandeep Singh following a raid at the electoral reform group’s office in Petaling Jaya, Selangor this afternoon.
Another member of the Bersih 2.0 steering committee, Jay Jay Denis told Malay Mail Online that both Maria and Mandeep were taken to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters for further questioning over several items that were seized during the raid.
