Nazri: Nope, despite Bersih 5 the PM isn’t resigning

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 8:01 AM

nazri-bersih-1Mocking Bersih 5’s mission to unseat the prime minister, Umno Minister Nazri Aziz said that the last time he checked, Najib Razak was still the country’s leader.

“I’ve checked. I called the Prime Minister’s Office just now, and they said no, Najib hasn’t resigned,” he told FMT.

“They (Bersih 5) organised this demonstration to get Najib to resign, but the prime minister has not sent in his letter of resignation.”

He said this showed that former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, as well as all the others involved in organising the rally, were just “politically stupid”.

Nazri said that if they had really wanted Najib to resign, they should not have wasted their time on street demonstrations but instead, have waited for the next general election where they could translate their dissatisfaction through a vote for Barisan Nasional’s opponents.

When asked as to his thoughts on the rally in general, the tourism and culture minister said he was very pleased with it as it had proven that Malaysia was a truly democratic country.

“I see every day that people are demonstrating against (the United States) President-elect Donald Trump. Even South Korea’s President … people came in thousands to demonstrate against them

“That is democracy. So Malaysia is on the same level as South Korea, the US, and the United Kingdom.

“The demonstrators today have helped elevate Malaysia to the level of countries whose democracy is very healthy. I want to give them (Bersih 5) a high five.”

Mocking the efforts of the Bersih 5 organisers further, Nazri appealed to the electoral watchdog to hold a rally again next year, but to inform him beforehand so he could promote the event for tourism.

“I would like to get in touch with the organisers, and get them to inform me when they want to hold Bersih 6.

“I want to mark it on my calendar so I can use it to promote tourism. ‘Visit Malaysia 2017’.”

The Bersih 5 rally today attracted tens of thousands of participants who came in bright yellow T-shirts.

While the purpose of the rally was to demand for electoral reform among other things, the presence of children and traders gave the event a festive air.

  3. With 1 million UMNO members, 1 million civil servants+army+police personnel, 1 million members from BN coalition partners….yet, red shirt (UMNO sponsored thugs) could manage to round up only 4000 participants…that too, were paid parasites, lowly educated and came from the bottom half of the civilized society. Nazri, what have you to say to that?
