“Not true,” Nur Jazlan told Malay Mail Online when contacted.

“There are many processes to follow and it takes decades to become a citizen,” he added.

Nur Jazlan also told The Star Online that Malaysia does not automatically confer citizenship on anybody, unless said person is born in the country to Malaysian parents.

The Pulai MP said he did not think that Dr Zakir would want to apply for Malaysian citizenship.

Indian news outfit Hindustan Times cited unnamed representatives of Dr Zakir as saying that the Mumbai-based televangelist’s so-called Malaysian citizenship had come as a “package” together with his “Tokoh Maal Hijrah” award that he received from Malaysia in 2013.

The publication also claimed that Dr Zakir now holds dual Indian-Malaysian citizenship although Malaysia does not allow such a thing.

Hindustan Times said the fact that Dr Zakir is purportedly a Malaysian citizen on Malaysian soil would complicate investigations, as Malaysia has not allowed any extradition to India despite signing a treaty in 2010.

The Muslim preacher is believed to be currently in Malaysia.

Earlier this month, Times of India reported that the Indian government had imposed a five-year ban on Dr Zakir’s NGO, the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF).

The daily reported that India’s National Investigation Agency is mulling terror charges against Dr Zakir, reportedly based on testimonies of about 50 terror suspects and convicts recorded from various jails, with those caught citing him as their motivation and source of inspiration.

In April this year, the state of Terengganu offered Dr Zakir three islands for the preacher to open a branch for IRF, in addition to a religious school.

  1. Malaya is in love this guy. There’s no doubt about that judging from the frequency he is here. And its an irony that he promotes the anihilation of people professing certain religion which is in line with ISIS Doctrine and yet he is offered opportunities to open religious schools to propagate his extremist and violent views!
How shallow and hypocritical can some leaders be?
They think we are stupid and beleive whatever they shoot from their lying mouth!

  2. On May 7, 2016, Ragad reportedly voted in the Sarawak state polls, Since she only married Taib in 2010, that would mean that either she obtained her citizenship in just 6 years, or she had voted without holding a MyKad.

Worse, one report even mentioned that May 7 was “her second time voting”, presumably meaning that Ragad may have voted in the 2013 General Election, just 3 years after her marriage to Taib.

Further, during the investigations into the Project IC scandal in Sabah, one person recounted how he landed in Malaysia, and within a year or so, he was holding a genuine MyKad. There were other similar cases.

I also recall that many years ago, a foreign female shooting coach was quickly made a Malaysian citizen [within months], and went to shoot in some international sports meet as part of our national team.

So it does not necessarily take “decades”.

  3. He IS not Malaysian. That’s not to say that he MAY not BE one in the future. See the nuances? The speed with which this explanation comes out is remarkable. Either it is a cover for what is going on below the surface and/or the government responds speedily only when it is “in their favour,” which means that if there is no response, they are guilty, as accused. By the way, if this character is given citizenship, the government (or rather, those in power now) will live to rue it.

Dr. Zakir Naik wants non-muslims to be wiped out in his speech. Even the 50 prisoners say Dr. Zakir Naik promotes violence and death. Can the 2 ministers explain why this IS extremest staying very long in Malaysia. Is Malaysia indirectly promoting his idealogy to exterminate non-muslims in Malaysia.
