Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today called on all Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to counter political missiles fired and targeted at them in view of the 14th general election (GE14).
The Umno vice-president, who is carrying out the duties of deputy president, said this was because too many politically-motivated allegations, which were tantamount to political missiles, were being hurled to defame the BN government, leaders and component parties from far and near.
“In this situation, the leaders of BN component parties, Friends of BN or non-governmental organisations should stand up and counter the allegations, rather than just keeping quiet.”
He said this to reporters after attending the closing of the 24th Indian Progressive Front (IPF) General Assembly here today.
Ahmad Zahid said the close ties among the BN component party leaders would enable them to counter the political missiles fired by their enemies, including the allegation that the government had brought in and granted citizenship to 700,000 foreign workers into the country, which he stressed was untrue.
“We have to counter their attacks. The close ties between our leaders are the key foundations to counter the attacks came our way.
“I’m sure the people will not fall so easily for those lies and allegations,” he said.
In his speech earlier, Ahmad Zahid also called on all leaders of political parties and non-governmental organisations representing the Indian community to seek a meeting with him or the prime minister to solve their problems.
He said there were so much more to be done for the community, including in terms of education and socio-economy.
“The prime minister is sincere in helping the Indian community to solve their problems. I’m also committed to helping him,” he said.
At the same time, Ahmad Zahid also hoped that the IPF would continue helping the BN to gain the support from the Indian community in a bid to form a stronger government after the GE14.
