Police have arrested the man believed to be the mastermind behind the gunning down of PKR Miri secretary and PKR-Bekenu candidate Bill Kayong.
Inspector-General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar took to Twitter to congratulate the police on the arrest of the prime suspect in the murder case.
It is reported that the Sarawakian businessman, who is a Datuk, was detained in Fujian, China, yesterday by Chinese authorities.
Malaysian police flew to China to escort him home.
The suspect was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport today and is expected to be escorted back to Miri tomorrow.
Sarawak police commissioner Mazlan Mansor told The Star that the suspect would be charged soon in Miri.
It was earlier reported that the businessman had flown to Singapore from Miri on June 23, two days after Kayong was gunned down in Kuala Baram, and had since been on the run in Australia.
Police had arrested and charged the alleged shooter and two others.
Kayong, 43, whose Muslim name is Mohd Hasbie Abdullah, was shot dead while in a Toyota Hilux about 8.30am on June 21 at the Lutong traffic light junction near the E-Mart supermarket in Jalan Miri-Bintulu.
