Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin attend the PAS Ceramah Mega Rakyat at Tapak pasar malam in Paya Jaras December 12, 2016. — Picture by Saw Siow FengPAS organised a joint ceramah last night with PKR and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Malaysia (PPBM), despite a lack of formal cooperation between the Islamist party and the latter two parties.

PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was the main speaker at the “Ceramah Mega Rakyat” held at Paya Jaras here, reiterated that PPBM would like to be the “bridge” for federal Opposition parties to mend ties with each other.

“We are aware of PAS and Amanah’s problems and we are aware of the ideological differences between PAS and DAP,” he said.

“But we don’t have a problem with anyone. So we are willing to be the bridge if needed,” he said.

The speeches during the ceramah centred on the state of the economy and also on the state of the cooperation between Opposition parties ahead of a general election due in less than two years.

PAS Selangor chief Datuk Iskandar Samad and party deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man shared the stage with Muhyiddin and PKR lawmaker R Sivarasa, among others.

The ceramah, attended by over 1,000 supporters, was organised by PAS Selangor and also included PAS’ Paya Jaras assemblyman Khairuddin Othman.

The ceramah took place although PAS, Pakatan Harapan and PPBM have yet to form any formal coalition in the federal opposition bloc.

Pakatan Harapan, however, has scheduled a press conference at the PKR headquarters this afternoon on the signing of a “cooperation” agreement with PPBM.

PAS exited the Pakatan Rakyat opposition coalition in 2015 following a spat with DAP over the implementation of hudud laws in Kelantan.

DAP, PKR and PAS’ splinter party, Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), later went on to form Pakatan Harapan.

PPBM has spearheaded efforts to get all the Opposition parties, including PAS and Pakatan Harapan parties, to form an alliance or electoral pact ahead of the 14th general elections.

But so far, PAS has yet to enter any formal arrangement with the other parties, while maintaining their cooperation with Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia.

  1. When PAS leaders notably Hadi Awang chose to ignore all the wrongs and incriminating evidences in Singapore Court against Najib, PKR and Bersatu should wait up to the fact that Hadi and Najib had already sealed their electoral pact for their respective political interests. Bersatu and PKR should not be fooled by Hadi Awang.
