Bill Kayong murder trial: New judge expected to hear case

Suspects Datuk Stephen Lee (second left, wearing mask) and Chin Wui Cheng (left) being led out of court by police after the remention of their case today.The murder trial of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Miri branch secretary and social activist Bill Kayong is expected to be heard by a new judge.

Judge Dr Alwi Abdul Wahab stated today that the case would be heard before another judge after the defense counsels applied for a new judge to hear the case.

Defense counsels Ranbir Singh and Arthur Lee for the first and second accused – Mohamad Fitri Pauzi and Lie Chang Loon, respectively – applied for the change in a letter dated Jan 3 to the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak.

At press time, there has been no approval from the Chief Justice just yet on the application by the defense counsels.
