Sarawak party says no to Islamic teachers at Christian-majority schools

PBDS Baru president Cobbold John Lusoi (centre) says he is not against posting religious teachers to rural schools where there are many Muslim students or in Malay areas. — Picture by Sulok TawieParti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS Baru) will submit a memorandum urging the Education Ministry not to post religious teachers from Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah to rural schools where all the students are Christian Dayaks.

PBDS Baru president Cobbold John Lusoi said the memorandum will be submitted to the ministry after the Tanjong Datu by-election on February 18.

“We will oppose any plan by the ministry to post outside religious teachers to rural schools of Sarawak where all the students are Christian Dayaks,” he said, when responding to Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid’s statement yesterday that the ministry will bring in religious teachers to teach Islamic Studies in Sarawak.

Lusoi expressed fears that the religious teachers would use their position to influence Christian students to become Muslims.

“We have seen in the past where religious teachers and non-governmental organisations from Peninsular Malaysia were attempting to influence Dayak students to convert to Islam,” he said, referring to a case in SMK Balai Ringgin in 2014 where attempts were made to convert Dayak students from the school to Islam through an “Anak Angkat” programme.

Lusoi said the attempts failed after the students informed their parents.

However, he said the party is not against posting religious teachers to schools where there are many Muslim students or to schools in Malay areas.

Mahdzir, who was helping to campaign for the Barisan Nasional’s candidate Puan Seri Jamilah Anu in the by-election, had said that the lack of teachers teaching the Islamic Studies subject in Sarawak was very critical at the moment.

He claimed that Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg had agreed with the ministry to bring in religious teachers from the peninsula and Sabah to Sarawak.

  1. The difference of muslims and non muslim teachers is that non-muslim teachers educate students with ACADEMICS AND MORALS therefore they respect others. While some muslims teachers teach academics and often in the class as i experience it myself, muslims teachers always thought about their religion to the students like they r doing islamisation. Religion should be teach at home or any religious institutions while school is the place for the kids to be educate, learn morals and manners. Therefore, they r kids and someone childs for god sake people!! It is not right for u to islamize someone’s child without their parents consent. It is not because of “iman x kuat ke?” They r kids n it’s hard to know what’s in their thoughts. It is not the parents to be blame. Well how does it feels if the non muslims r doing the same things as yrs?? So here please RESPECTS. Respects others believe for peace.

  3. It is not logical at all for cikgu agama to be posted to christian majority schools especially those in the rural areas unless of course the agenda is islamization of christians school children.
Isnt that creating flash points between islam and the local communities who profess defering beliefs? Why are they so bent on creating divisions and upheavals in our peaceful society in Sarawak?
Dont they know that we are not in Sabah where they can just run wild and convert with promises of monthly monetary aids which lasts only for a month?

    • Shame on you for the slander!😈

Play not with fire. Be not a rabble rouser! We have more than enough troubles, turbulence, turmoil and bad blood ongoing already. Do not inflame things further with your careless and thoughtless sarcasm. By your insensitivite act, you are creating further divide and suspicion with this irresponsible innuendo. If everybody does like what you are pursuing and eschewing, good heavens help us all!

    • Its not a mater of knowing islam when the intention of sending and posting cikgu agama who disguise as cikgu counselor to islamise innocent rural school kids to islam. In some rural schools, this so called counselor outnumber the real teachers who teachers real educational subjects!
We want our kids to learn mathematics, science, geography, history and be proficient in the Englidh language. We do not want cikgus whose only aim is to cultivate and instill the inclination towards islam in our young childrens mind.
Cigku agama are trained to influent and if that failed they resort to enticements, incentives and promises of monetary aids which they do not keep and fulfill . They only care about comverting and get there monetary reward for the number of converts they made. How is this activity healthy and good for the rural community when it is done in such a manner. Its tearing famillies apart and creating hardship when someone dies when ” BODY SNATCHERS” suddenly appears at the door claiming this and that?

    • What do you mean by ‘Iman x kuat ke?’ Do you know that the people they want to influence are Teens? I know they already can think but you don’t know that they may an airhead or not. And we can learn about Islam from Sejarah,Pendidikan Moral and Bahasa Melayu. There no need to push to the point Muslim teachers to teach them about Islam. How about Muslim students learn about Christian? Well, even you learn about Christian,I don’t think you can convert to Christian as I heard from people that Muslim CANNOT convert to any religion or otherwise the punishment is death. But I don’t think Malaysia would do that, right? Tho the muslim people would criticise other one who convert from Islam to Christian.

And I could see that they’re too desperate to make all new generation to become Muslim to the point they make ‘Anak Angkat’ programme to hide their true motives.
