Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas said Abang Johari succeeded in delivering the message that he would continue the legacy of the late Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem and implement all the projects planned in the constituency.

Uggah, who is also Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president, said the show of overwhelming support for Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu in the by-election also proved the people of Tanjong Datu had faith in the Barisan Nasonal (BN) government.

“It proved that the decision to field her to continue Tok Nan (Adenan)’s great work, had the fullest support from the majority of Tanjong Datu populace. “I am very confident Datuk Amar Jamilah will be able to serve and bring greater development for the people of Tanjong Datu,” said Uggah.

He said the opposition candidates from Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) Baru and Star’s failure to secure enough votes to keep their deposit also spoke volumes of the people’s support to BN.

Meanwhile Sarawak BN Youth chief, who is also PBB Youth chief, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the victory showed that the people of Tanjong Datu appreciated what the late Adenan had done for the constituency.

“PBB Youth is very confident that Jamilah will continue with her late husband’s legacy to uplift the socio economic status of the people in the constituency,” added Fadillah, who is also Works Minister.

PBB Women secretary Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, in congratulating Jamilah and her family for the massive victory, said Jamilah’s victory was not unexpected. “We have anticipated she will win the seat handsomely but BN is a humble coalition where all the components were all out to ensure a big victory,” Nancy, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department.

Meanwhile PBB Women chief, Puan Sri Empiang Jabu said the additional number of women representatives from PBB in the state assembly would certainly strengthen the party.
